What was it like living and working on Intrepid?

Sailors on the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid could be out to sea for up to 10 months at a time. Working on an aircraft carrier was hard, dirty and tiring.

Many spaces served dual purposes, so sailors could have fun when they were not working.

Navy Fun: Foreign Ports

Intrepid sailed all over the world! When Intrepid visited a new place, the crew could leave the ship to explore. This picture is in Greece!

When many sailors reflect on their time in the Navy, many say that visiting foreign ports was when they had the most fun during their service.

Sometimes sailors would clear out the Hangar deck on board to dance. These dances happened when Intrepid was in port, so that family, friends, and guests could come aboard and join the crew. These events were nicknamed Tea Dances.
