Program Origins

  • Mr. Scott Buhrman, Dr. Rick Akers, & Dr. Clyde Harrell founded in 2009-2010

  • Trend with the highest level, gifted students not being challenged.
    • The educational system, in general, was focused more on at-risk students.
    • An alarming number of highest achieving students were not attending 4-year colleges/universities.

  • Program was designed to:
    • challenge higher achieving/gifted students
    • increase rigor through AP course work
    • provide support during high school & with the transition to college

  • ALA program has been designed to teach, push, and provide essential “tools” for our top students to achieve peak potential.
