Principal’s Message

Dear Hoover Family:

I hope everyone had a wonderful time over the Memorial Day Weekend. The school year is nearing the end, and it has been a fantastic year! I feel blessed to be part of a terrific team that makes up Hoover. This year’s success is due in large part to the hard work of our Instructional Leadership Team. We are so fortunate at Hoover to have a staff that is dedicated to our children and skilled in delivering a high-quality education. It has been a pleasure collaborating with each member of the Hoover team this year. They have done a superb job of planning the best curriculum and delivering the best instruction in Montgomery County. I could not be more grateful for the support staff we have here at Hoover. It would be impossible to do our job as administrators and teachers, without the support of our office staff, paraeducators, cafeteria staff, security and building management staff. I am indebted to our wonderful secretaries: Mrs. Nesbit, Ms. Halperin, Mr. Lee, and Mrs. Soya. They are the source of strength for our school. Mr. Pumphrey and Ms. Cha lead the building management team in ensuring that our school building is perfect and ready for students each day. Many thanks to Mrs. Rosa for making sure each of us has something good to eat each day. Thank you to Mr. Rosetti and Mr. Dorsey for keeping our students safe each and every day. Kudos to the Counseling team for an amazing Career Expo! Many thanks to the volunteers, parents, and staff who worked so hard for all our students! It was great to see our students explore different career opportunities in our community. I would also like to take this time to thank Ms. King and the PTA who put forth such a delicious lunch during Teacher Appreciation week. As we come to a close, I want to thank all of you for making Hoover the best middle school in which to work and learn. I cannot thank you enough for all your support and encouragement. We are truly a team!

Seeking Feedback on Our Program

Due to lower enrollment, our staffing has been reduced significantly. As a result, we will be reviewing our priorities to meet the needs of our students.

As we wrap up the school year, we want your feedback on what’s worked, what we need to upgrade, and areas of interest for our students regarding our curriculum and after school activities in order to improve our instructional program for next year.

The members of the Instructional Leadership Team will review the feedback over the summer as we finalize our school improvement plan. Please take a moment to complete this google survey, one for each of your Hoover students.

Thank you.

Computational Learning Credit

Update for Instrumental Music Students and Parents

Each year students earn computational learning credit through STEM electives. These electives teach students to apply math, science, and technical knowledge to promote creative problem solving and exploration of STEM related fields of study and careers.

Students in band and orchestra earn this computational learning credit through acoustical engineering activities completed in band and orchestra. They use technology to create electronic music including working with audio editing, loops, autotune, and beat maker. This work is reflected in the grade book through the following course title with Ms. Frazee as their teacher:

  • 8th Grade Instrumentalists: Innovative Technology Solutions

Please contact Ms. Barbara Carlstrom, Administrator for the PE/Arts Department, if you have any questions.
