Housing Priority

  • We typically house 40% of our graduate student population between San Clemente and Family Student Housing
  • ALL students must apply on time to be considered for a continuing student contract for San Clemente
  • No housing guarantees

How Are Contracts Assigned

Students with completed applications ON TIME will be considered for a contract

    • Continuing students will apply for a continuing housing application
    • Once they do this they will be considered for a contract
    • We anticipate that we will be limited to about 375 spaces for continuing graduate students.
    • Last year we had a weighted lottery for spaces because we had more applicants than space available for continuing students
    • Students WILL be notified if they are offered a contract by late March
    • If you do not receive a contract offer it is important that you seek community housing as we cannot guarantee an offer at a later date

Family Student Housing

  • Family Student Housing is available to registered, full-time student with families
  • Contracts are allocated through a waitlist process
  • Average wait time:
    • 6 to 12 months - families without children
    • 3 to 6 months - families with children
  • Priority is given to families with children
  • Prospective students do not need to be enrolled at UCSB at the time of application to the waitlist

Room In Private Homes

    • Locations – Goleta and Santa Barbara
    • Usually month to month
    • Leasing usually can be found 1-3 months prior to your move in date
    • Security deposit usually equal to one month's rent
    • Furnished
    • Private Room
    • Shared or Private Bathroom
    • Access to kitchen, laundry and other parts of the home
    • Utilities included
    • Prices range from $750 to $1200

Isla Vista

    • 12 month lease term
    • Leasing has started now for 2023-2024
    • Joint and several lease vs By the bed space lease
    • Co-signers/Guarantors usually needed
    • Security deposit required (can be up to 2x the rent)
    • First months rent and sometimes last months rent due upon lease signing (will vary from management company to management company)
    • Not furnished
    • Partial utilities included – trash/recycled and sometimes water
      • Gas, Electricity, Wifi and Cable (average $100 a month per apartment)
      • Start up costs for utilities
    • Mostly shared room
    • Prices will vary depending on single, double or triple space
      • Most will be shared spaces

Goleta/Santa Barbara

    • 12 month lease terms
    • Joint and several lease
    • Security deposit required (can be equal to 2 times the rent)
    • No cosigners so if you don’t meet the income requirements we can usually work with the management company to see if you can pay an increased security deposit
    • First months rent and sometimes last months rent due upon lease signing (will vary from management company to management company)
    • Not Furnished
    • Partial utilities included – trash/recycled and sometimes water
      • Gas, Electricity, Wifi and Cable
        • average $100 a month per apartment
        • Start up costs for setting up utilities
    • Singles or doubles depending on the price point you want to pay and the amount of people you want to live with
