3 must-haves

on your

Handshake profile

Employers find you based on the career interests in your Handshake profile. Interests include:

Job type: Do you want an internship, part-time job, or full-time job?

Location: Which cities do you want to work in?

Job roles: Select the types of jobs you want, like marketing associate or data analyst.

14

Make sure to update this if you change majors

You can NOT get discovered if you don’t have a completed profile!!

16

17 of 42

Do these three things to get noticed:

Make sure to add a headshot photo to your profile. Like LinkedIn, profiles with photos get 7x more views than those without one.

Photo

Experience

Skills

17

It is crucial that you not only have added your work experience, but that you are incorporating key words from job postings into those descriptions.

What are the skills employers are looking for in your chosen field? If you have those, make sure to add them to your profile. You will want to continue to build this section over time

Avoid “Robo-Applying!”

Identify Industries of Interest

  • Being open to everything actually makes the job search harder.
  • Be honest with yourself and identify the top 2 or 3 industries that excite you the most. Then, identify companies within those industries

Make Connections

  • Identify alumni that work within the companies on your list
  • Reach out and ask if they will connect with you over coffee
