Q: Which agency or program did/does ACPS use and the scope of these placements?

  • HR reviewed several J1 (Cultural Exchange) Visa providers currently under contract in the state of Virginia with school divisions to recruit and bring international teachers.  Intalage was selected and already had a contract with Spotsylvania County.  Intalage recruits teachers from a variety of countries, not only India.

Q: What qualifications and Virginia licensure requirements apply?

  • As with all teacher openings, principals were provided resumes and interviewed candidates to select – principals chose the best candidate from the mix – either candidates who applied to their posting or candidates offered by Intalage.  Every Intalage placement was selected by the principal or assistant principal. Virginia licensure is required, and Intalage works with HR and the Va Dept of Education to ensure compliance with licensure.

Q: What onboarding, mentoring, and ongoing classroom support are provided?

  • One of the reasons Intalage was chosen is because the company employs former school principals to assist with developing and supporting the teachers.  This includes professional development outside of the school day, observations with feedback, and if needed, direct assistance with planning instruction.

Q: Where should families direct questions or concerns about these arrangements?

  • Families with questions or concerns about any teacher should direct those questions to their school principal, who oversees and supervises the staff.  HR will continue to work with principals related to the performance management of staff and will communicate with the Intalage team related to the performance of the teachers they sponsored.

  • Some questions will be helpful with making improvements:
    • 15. Is every family told in writing who their child's case manager is, what that role covers, and who else is on the IEP team? (R9)
    • 20. Could families get a plain-language description of each Base program (A, B, and C): who it serves, what it provides, and which schools have it?
