My students' work for "Let's Act Now & Reduce Our Water Footprint" activity (Class 8/K)

Direct water use

  • Short shower should be preferred (max 5-10 min)
  • When placing the dishes in the machine, they should not be washed in water, but should only be wiped with a brush.
  • The faucet should be turned off while brushing teeth and soaping hands.
  • While washing vegetables and fruits, the faucet should not be kept open all the time.
  • Household waste water should be used to water the flowers.
  • The washing machine must be operated at full capacity.
  • Instead of washing the balcony, it should be wiped clean.
  • Water leaking taps should be repaired.

How do we reduce our water footprint?

Indirect water use

  • Tea and coffee consumption should be reduced.
  • Clothes should not be bought except for the needs.
  • Recycling should be given importance.
  • Waste oil should not be poured into the sink. This causes pollution of our water resources and a decrease in usable water.
  • Plants should be watered in the afternoon, not in the morning. In this way, excessive evaporation is prevented and plants need less water.
  • When buying vegetables, fruits and meat products from the grocery store, needs should be taken into account. More food than needed should not be taken.

“Let's Act Now & Reduce Our Water Footprint" activity, class 6a

Direct water use

not using water to defrost food

turning off water while brushing your teeth

taking a shower instated of a bath

dropping your used tissues into the trash instead of flushing down the toilet

not letting your water run while having a shower and you wait for hot water, bring a bucket and collect it

not letting the faucet run while cleaning fruit and vegetables, rinse them in a bowl

putting a bucket under the dripping faucet and water the flowers with this water

washing our clothes less frequently, only when necessary

turning on the dishwasher only when it’s full

We tried to reduce our waterfootprint by reducing

Indirect water use

re-using towels at home or on vacation

skipping the meat in your meal one day a week

consuming more local products

not throwing away any food - buy only those that you can eat

switching to a morning cup of tea instead of coffee. Making tea takes less water that making coffee

trying to cut down on sugar and sweets in general, it takes a lot of water to produce it

putting less sugar in the tea

TOGETHER AS A CLASS WE SAVED ABOUT 4500 LITRES OF WATER!! AMAZING!
