The Cell...
is like...
...a soccer game
Nucleus = Coach
-The boss of the cell
-Keeps the DNA, the genetic instructions for what’s in our bodies
-The coach tells the players what to do
Cell membrane = outside boundaries
-decides what goes in (food) and out (waste) of the cell
-lets us know when the ball is in or out of the field
Cytoskeleton/Cell Wall = Stadium
-gives structural support and shapes the cell
-the stadium surrounds the field in order to shape it and support it
Cytoplasm = Grass
-substance that is jelly-like and takes up most of the cell
-It is what covers and takes up the space in the field
Endoplasmic Reticulum = Soccer Training
-It does protein production, has many folds in its structure and has ribosomes
-They train to get fit and produce skills for when they play a game
Ribosomes = Captain
-Ribosomes do the work to make proteins
-The captain does work to communicate with the rest of the players during the game
Golgi Apparatus = List of the Players
-The final list of the soccer players is what lets everyone know who will play during the game
-It is what makes the final changes and inspections in order to know if the protein is ready to be shipped out
Lysosome = Stadium workers
-They have digestive enzymes to clean the cell and get rid of waste
-The workers clean the mess that is left by everyone after the game is over
Vacuole = Locker Room
-The storage area of the cell
-The locker room holds whatever the player carries with them
Mitochondria = Beverage
-Powers the cell by breaking down and getting energy from food molecules
-Many players drink gatorade in order to stay hydrated and gain more energy
Chloroplast = Fans
-Found in plant cells and capture energy for photosynthesis
-The fans cheer on the players so that they feel more energetic when they play
