Occupancy & CO2 Control of Variable Air Volume (VAV)

Results

Measuring occupancy levels results in a quicker response to change than waiting for a rise in CO2, providing the best possible ventilation rates.

As the room empties and CO2 levels fall, VAV will modulate to minimum flow.

The AHU continuously tracks demand from all the system VAV boxes modulating fan speeds to maintain pressure levels in the supply and extract ducts.

2

1

AHU provides pre treated air to VAV box and the damper varies air flow to room diffuser.

VAV damper is controlled direct via the built in actuator in the RP-V Advanced. Wired communication to Automation Server.

5

6

7

Wall sensor provides temp & CO2 data to RP-V.

Using data from sensors and room occupancy design, VAV setpoint is scheduled between min-max flow.

As CO2 levels change, VAV box setpoint is rescheduled to meet the maximum CO2 requirements.

Ceiling mounted Multi Sensor or Insight-Sensor, provides occupancy count data

VAV modulates air volume in room, achieving desired setpoint

SpaceLogic RP-V Advanced is the IoT hub that enables demand control ventilation to create the Room of the Future

  • New air flow sensors that can measure very low differential pressures with high resolution, <0.02Pa
  • Extended torque rates (from 6Nm to 10Nm) to handle larger duct dampers
  • Two controller versions with different I/O mixes to fit different applications
  • Pre-defined HVAC applications for RP-V saves time during engineering and commissioning
  • Built-in actuator and onboard I/O for easy and efficient installation and commissioning

Did you know: Demand control ventilation practices driven by sensor data save 10-20% of building HVAC energy use1

Use Case: Air quality as the control point

Confidential Property of Schneider Electric |

Page 18

.

Why ventilate when it´s not needed? The RP-V Advanced controller measures the air quality and adjust the air flow to create a healthy climate in balance with the demand.

Controlling the air volume depending on the occupancy level in the room is an approved method on the market and lets the AHU operate optimally and energy smart. The AHU doesn’t need to produce more treated air than required by the system.

Fits perfectly in conference rooms and office spaces that have variations in the number of people occupying the area.

Use Case: Flexible and Modular Workplace

Mobile cubicle walls gives the user the possibility to change and customize the meeting space on-the-fly, but it also puts great demands on the HVAC system which is often designed for a static setup of the rooms

SpaceLogic RP-V Advanced can be a part of EcoStruxure Building Operation which supports the dynamic setup of the rooms.

As an example, a digital input from a folding wall can trigger a function that includes several RP-Vs to work as one room controller, minimizing the risk of counteracting against each other causing unwanted energy usage.

Integration of HVAC, light and blinds as separate systems doubles installation and commissioning efforts. Units with over-bridging functionality from different vendors involve complex planning, multiple user interfaces and potential sources of error. Using ONE system with EcoStruxure Building Operation and SpaceLogic overcomes these problems.

Occupants’ cognitive abilities, health, productivity and well-being, are directly impacted by decisions in engineering, operations and the running of buildings. EcoStruxure Building Operation with Connected Room Solutions, does not only offer demand driven VAV zones, but also integration of light, blind and noise level. All pieces together, will allow for optimal occupant comfort and a well-being experience.

In addition to above, the available building IoT data and ownership of this, will also become clearer when integrating into ONE system.

EcoStruxure Building Operation connecting to the Edge level down to zone level, allows the building owner to change layout and re-zoning when changes.

Page 21

.

Avoid starting the design work from scratch and download quality-proven standard VAV applications that comply with ASHRAE 36 standard.

The built-in isolated power supply will minimize the self power consumption which could be a significant factor when creating energy-optimized spaces. It also allows the installer to use a centralized transformer solution instead of wiring one to each unit.

SpaceLogic RP-V Advanced acts as the IoT hub in the room space areas, both wired and wireless. Perform fast retrofit and replace the old room unit with a new wireless unit and avoid time-consuming re-wiring.

Start commissioning before the network cable infrastructure is in place by using the EcoStruxure Building Commission app. Perform checkout, configure set-points and save reports.
