Messages from Mrs Court

Boreatton

This week,Year 6 had a brilliant time on their three-day Boreatton PGL residential trip! Pupils tackled a wide range of activities, including rock climbing, high ropes, archery, and canoeing, showing great determination and teamwork throughout. Highlights included the evening campfire and the problem-solving challenges, which brought out creativity and collaboration in every group. It was wonderful to see the children supporting each other, building confidence, and creating memories that will stay with them long after the trip.

Packed Lunches

Please ensure that any children bringing a packed lunch are provided with a balanced and nutritious meal (see page 2 for further guidance). School days can feel long and demanding, and pupils need a meal that will sustain their energy, concentration, and learning throughout the day. A nutritious packed lunch should include items such as:

  • Fruit and/or vegetables
  • A source of protein (e.g. cheese, lean meat, eggs, beans)
  • Bread, pasta, or rice
  • A healthy drink such as water or milk

We kindly ask that sweets, chocolate bars, and fizzy drinks are not included.

A reminder that school meals are free for all pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, and these provide a balanced option that meets national nutritional standards. Children who usually bring a packed lunch are also welcome to try a school meal if they wish—these can be booked via the school office.

Polite Reminder: Mobile phone use when collecting children.

We have noticed a number of parents using mobile phones when collecting children. We would politely ask that you try to greet your child without a phone in your hand. Being fully attentive keeps children safe, allows staff to communicate important messages, and supports positive interactions with your child. Taking a moment to be fully present helps your child feel valued, secure, and supported as they transition from school to home. Thank you for helping us keep our school environment safe and focused on pupils.

Brian Cox is Y3’s scientist for their unit Everday materials.

Brian Cox is a real-life scientist who makes shows about space and the universe for people of all ages including children. He is a professor at The University of Manchester, an important scientist at the Large Hadron Colider where scientists study the universe’s tiniest particles and he used to be the keyboard player in the pop band D:@Ream. He was born in Oldham England in 1968 and was inspired to become a scientist by reading a book called Cosmos when he was a child.

Leonardo Da Vinci

Hans Zimmer was born on 12th September 1957 in Frankfurt, West Germany. His work is notable for integrating electronic music sounds with more traditional orchestral arrangements. Since the 1980s, Zimmer has composed music for over 150 films. He has won two Oscars and four Grammys.

Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci (15 April 1452 – 2 May 1519) was an Italian polymath of the High Renaissance who was active as a painter, draughtsman, engineer, scientist, theorist, sculptor, and architect. While his fame initially rested on his achievements as a painter, he has also become known for his notebooks, in which he made drawings and notes on a variety of subjects, including anatomy, astronomy, botany, cartography, painting, and palaeontology.

Recently, some people have been talking about whether they feel proud to live in the UK. There are four countries that are part of the UK: England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales. Some people might feel proud to live in the UK because of how the country acts and what it’s like to live here. Some people might not feel proud if they do not like some of the things that go on in the UK. So, ’Do you feel proud of living in the UK?’

The question for discussion this week across school has been,’Do you feel proud of living in the UK?’
