Cross Country Recount
Monday 14th September - Tuesday 15th September
Teacher Notes:
WALT: - write a recount about the Cross Country using effective paragraphs.
- use a variety of sentence types and lengths to rewrite the dictated paragraphs.
- Review in peers the Cross Country.
- Students will create a Word Cloud with all the main ideas for their recount.
- As a class we will share some of our vocab and add to our Word Cloud.
- They will then post this to their blogs with a paragraph about what they have been doing.
- Review the purpose of writing a recount. What is it? Who is the audience?
- Discuss how if other people are going to read it then it needs to be interesting and exciting.
- Review simple, complex, compound sentences, statements and questions. Discuss their purpose and use.
- Look at what needs to be included for each year level for sentence types writing and get students to say which year level they are trying to get their work to be.
- Discuss the importance of a hook and an exciting sentence beginning. Review how the student did this in the writing national standards exemplar.
- Plan as a group- What are the big ideas for each paragraph?
- Talk about what is included in the introduction - give students time to write
- Get them to peer share and co-construct their writing so far.
- Continue process for each paragraph.
- Students will then assess their work against the vocabulary rubric and send their work to the relevant Exemplars Album.
