Return to School Plan

• The Rattan Public School has developed a plan for the 2023-2024 school year. This plan will allow our students to return to school in the safest way possible. We are in unique times that require flexibility and cooperation from everyone involved with the Rattan School District. We are working together to make sure your child stays healthy and safe.

Planning For Fall

• We are preparing to return to school in a traditional format for the 2023-2024 school year in August. For Kindergarten through 12th grades, Rattan Public School will offer a virtual learning option. This virtual learning option will be 100% online instruction powered by our investment in technology.

Traditional Learning Plan

• School Starts in a traditional manner in August
• All courses/classes taken at regularly assigned school site
• In-person instruction with a traditional academic school day
• Multiple health and safety measures implemented at each site
• Kindergarten – 12^th grade students have devices
• Increased utilization of technology in order to be flexible and retain the ability to adapt should state officials determine there’s a need to do so.

Health and Safety Measures

• Daily deep sanitations of campuses and buses, especially high touch areas
• Hand sanitizer on school buses
• Procedures and protocols to increase physical and social distancing in classrooms, during lunch, at recess, and during arrival and departure times.
• All visitors/parents must follow proper protocol when entering building
• Bathroom monitoring to avoid overcrowding

Health and Safety Measures

• Mobile hand-sanitizer stations for every classroom, buses, and hallways
• Hand-washing and respiratory etiquette taught and emphasized throughout the year
• Mask optional for students and staff
• (CDC recommends “Put the mask over your nose and mouth and secure it under your chin.” cdc.gov)

Traditional Learning Plan�Reimagining Learning with Increased Use of Technology

• Access to learning 24 hours a day/7 days a week. Each student in grades K – 12 enrolled in Rattan will be issued a device.
• This will allow access to content and learning opportunities to extend beyond the walls of our schools.
• Learning Management System (LMS): Rattan will be utilizing Google Classroom as the LMS for teachers to host instructional content. This will allow students 24/7 access to assignments and activities. Teachers will be able to combine online and face-to-face learning.

• It is the expectation of Rattan Public Schools that every student has access to learning and the ability to leverage the power of technology to increase student outcomes. The technology integration initiative is directly connected to our District’s goal of providing equity to all students and igniting passion for learning. It’s important to remember that this initiative is not about the technology itself, as the integration of technology throughout learning will increase engagement in learning. Technology will be utilized in both diagnostic testing to measure current mastery of academic standards and benchmark testing to measure growth throughout the year.

• The goal of every teacher will be to create and implement opportunities for students to reach the highest level possible in a given task.
• There are unlimited ways in which technology can support learning, but there are THREE major areas that serve as a starting point. This includes using technology for:
• Feedback
• Collaboration
• Creation
• For the student, the fun, critical thinking that happens with the use of technology pushes the student to achieve in the upper levels of Bloom’s taxonomy and Depth of Knowledge.

Virtual Learning Option

Kindergarten through 6^th grade:

Rattan Elementary School will utilize the IXL course work for our CMS from Kindergarten – 6^th grade.

District working groups are continually working with the curriculum and courses within IXL for grades Kindergarten – 6^th.

COVID-19 School Procedures

• Quarantine is used to keep someone who might have been exposed to COVID-19 away from others. Quarantine helps prevent spread of disease that can occur before a person knows they are sick or if they are infected with the virus without feeling symptoms. People in quarantine should stay home, separate themselves from others, monitor their health, and follow directions from their state or local health department.
• Who needs to be quarantined? Anyone who has been in close contact with someone who has COVID-19.
• What counts as close contact?
• You were within 6 feet of someone who has COVID-19 for at least 15 minutes
• You provided care at home to someone who is sick with COVID-19
• You had direct physical contact with the person (touched, hugged, or kissed them)
• You shared eating or drinking utensils
• They sneezed, coughed, or somehow got respiratory droplets on you

COVID-19 School Procedures

• Stay home and monitor your health
• Stay home for 10 days after your last contact with a person who has COVID-19
• Watch for fever (100◦F), cough, shortness of breath, or other symptoms of COVID-19
• If possible, stay away others, especially people who are at higher risk for getting very sick from COVID-19
• Stay home for 10 days after your last contact with a person who has COVID-19

• Stay home until 10 days after last exposure and maintain social distance (at least 6 feet) from others at all times.

As some communities in the area open K-12 schools, CDC offers the following considerations for ways in which schools can help protect students, teachers, administrators, and staff and slow the spread of COVID-19. Schools can determine, in collaboration with state and local health officials to the extent possible, whether and how to implement these considerations while adjusting to meet the unique needs and circumstances of the local community. Implementation should be guided by what is feasible, practical, acceptable, and tailored to the needs of each community

Daily Screening

• Students and staff entering school buildings are required to complete a checklist for safety guidelines each day and may be asked to produce the checklist if contact tracing is necessary. (See below.) Letter to parents communicating the checklist will be sent. Attendance at school will confirm student or staff has answered “no” to all questions. Answering “yes” to any of the questions means student or staff should remain off-site and take a sick day. Some districts may require temperature checks at the school.

Isolation Procedure

A student who exhibits a fever of 100 degrees will be immediately isolated in a predetermined room, parent will be contacted and student will be sent home. Student will be identified in a Google form for necessary staff to communicate with health officials.

Student or staff who has been sent home due to temperature must remain out of school until fever free with no fever reducing medication for at least 3 days after receiving a negative COVID-19 test or 10 days if no COVID testing is done. During this time the student will become a distance learner according to district procedures. Daily off-site attendance will be taken through the digital platform as stated in the district’s digital learning guidelines.

Practice for Positive Case in Elementary Schools

• On advice of health department, parents of other students who have been in close contact with student who tested positive for COVID-19 will be contacted.
• Classroom of positive tested student will be thoroughly sanitized and entire classroom will go to distance learning for 14 days (quarantined). Siblings of positive tested student may also be quarantined.
• Grab and go meals will be provided for students who have been placed in quarantine. Delivery will be dictated by the district’s Child Nutrition capabilities.
• If the absentee rate of a site and/or district reaches 35%, then the site and/or district will go to distance learning for 14 days with the count starting on the first day of distance learning.
• Letters, texts or school call-outs to communicate that a positive COVID-19 case has been identified will be sent to staff and parents of the site with the case. Communication for proving daily attendance will also be given at that time.

Traditional Learning Requirements for Teachers

• Teachers will reexamine classroom area to maximize spacing of student desks/tables with one-directional seating and as much social distance as possible between students.
• Seating charts for each period/class will be created and kept up-to-date.
• Teacher will encourage proper hand washing and respiratory etiquette.
• Teachers will be expected to revert to distance learning as designed by their district when quarantine is required.

Bus Requirements for Safety

• Recommend alternate transportation, other than school bus, for students, if possible.
• Maximize the air flow of the bus by opening windows, if possible.
