Introduction
Food nourishes us physically, emotionally and spiritually. Recipies connect us through cultural traditions and the ceremony of the shared meal. During school closure, many RAMS artists used their extra time at home to get creative in the kitchen. In Art, we have been discussing presentation, color choices, and effective photography as it relates to this life skill.
The RAMS Community Cookbook is a collection of staff, student and family recipes collected during school closure in June 2020, to figuratively unite us when we can not physically be together. Through The Students Rebuild Hunger Challenge these over 200 recipes raised over $1,563 for organizations fighting world hunger.
I extend a huge thank you to our student editors: Aditya Gupta, Grade 8, Rachel Griffith, Grade 8 and Madeline Prince, Grade 6. Your hard work really pulled this project together! Best wishes to the entire RAMS community for a healthy and tasty summer!

Student Editors Statements:
“During this school closure, I have really been trying to think of any way I can help the community in a safe way. It often feels as though there isn’t much to do, but thanks to my amazing art teacher, Mrs. Hebert, I was able to participate and help edit our cookbook for The Students Rebuild Hunger Challenge. We ended up raising over $1,500 to help combat world hunger. World hunger is especially prominent in times like these where more and more people are out of work thus making it so they can’t put food on the table. I am so glad I got to be a part of this project and I am so glad I could do something little to help others.” -Rachel Griffith, Grade 8
“There are over a billion people affected by world hunger, millions to billions affected by this pandemic in some way, and thousands of other problems going on right now. As a child, I have always been interested in helping the world, and to end simple problems in the world such as hunger, and I have always wanted to make a difference through innovation, philanthropy, or making special projects. When I saw the opportunity to help contribute and edit the RAMS Cookbook, I felt that this was an example of exactly what I had been looking forward to doing. The Cookbook helps to bring our community together by sharing meaningful recipes with each other, both in a practical and abstract manner. Additionally, many peers and I have been plagued with boredom and distractions amid this period of physical distancing, and often gravitate towards certain forms of online entertainment. I felt that this also helped me do something meaningful, and use my time wisely. I really hope overall, many of the problems in our world such as the pandemic and racism come to a conclusion or at least get minimized. I look forward to doing certain community and meaningful projects such as this one in the future by utilizing my strengths and looking for problems to be solved and by learning in the process of contributing to them." -Aditya Gupta, Grade 8
