What does KXSC do?

High-quality programming
Content: concert / release reviews, album anniversaries, event coverage, photo + video, etc.

So, what IS it that we do?

1) We are first and foremost, a radio broadcast organization. Our music, talk and sports shows run the gamut of genres and topics, so you can pretty much do whatever you want on the radio (within reason). We are given a huge amount of freedom to show what college students listen to and care about, so we want to make sure that we are giving our listeners interesting and engaging content since they take the time to find us out specifically, rather than just tuning to whatever station is easiest.

2) Speaking of great content, we also have tons of departments that create social media content for the blog like album and concert reviews, graphic design, photography, videography, and the like.

3) KXSC will teach you time-management, creativity, give you tangible accomplishments/content to show to potential employers, and is a community wherein you can thrive! Throughout all of this, you’re learning how to be a radio DJ on state-of-the-art equipment and run the day-to-day operations of a professional station that people listen to from all around the world! It’s incredibly rewarding to see our everyone’s disparate skills work together to form something larger than each of ourselves!

4) Also, we’re a large community of current students and alumni so you’re destined to make connections with your peers and engage with the lustrious legacy of college radio stations!

Your project will encompass anything you do that helps them out in some way, including but not limited to: Music Department (album/concert reviews, organizing our physical media, etc), Content (contribute to social media via photography or videography, write reviews, or create mixes), Street team (good karma, amplified noise, with love events à these are all events we put on around and off campus to showcase our DJ skillz & host a fun experience for those who don’t know KXSC), community development (DJ and intern event-planning), PSA – paid recordings to go on-air, Live show (video and engineering), KXSC archive at Doheny library (everything we do at the station is a part of history and is documented in Doheny!), and most of all, you can design your own by combining any number of these to suit your interest.

Honestly, the possibilities are endless! Essentially, this portion of the intern process ensures that you are getting the widest reach of exposure to all that KXSC has to offer. Our departments need help creating content and having extra hands on deck, and this is a perfect way to show how essential you are to efficiently running the station. We will explore your options for this project more in depth if you are accepted.

We especially need interns with experience in graphic design software like Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and the like!

We also need interns that are free Tuesdays from 11-2 to set up and take down Street Team events!!!
