How to prepare for registration

  • Driver's License of the Applicant (18-years or older)
  • Certificate of occupancy for the location
  • General Liability Insurance Certificate 
    • Lists City of Pittsburgh as "Certificate Holder"
  • Fee - $35

  • (Optional) Waiver – Report prepared by PA L&I Lead Risk Assessor. 
    • If so, no fee and no inspection.

Lead Dust Wipe inspection

  • An Inspector will take Lead Dust swipe samples to send to lab
  • Focusing on children's play areas indoors
  • Could take 30-40 minutes for inspector to complete the dust swipe tests
  • Lab turnaround time for samples could be weeks. Violation notices for failed testing may arrive weeks later after inspection occurs

Preparing for the Inspection

  • HEPA vacuum (rental)
  • Cracking Peeling paint
  • Holes/ imperfections in wall. 
  • Bare soil in child play areas with paint material

Request for Compliance?

  • What will happen if there's a "positive" lead result from the lab related to the property:

​

    • Any sample that is above EPA threshold will "fail" and a property will be "in violation" until the property is HEPA cleaned/ Lead abated
    • 90 days to remedy
    • Secondary lead dust swipe test will determine if the lead has been property cleaned/abated and violation will be resolved
