Substance use rates among Scituate 7th & 8th Graders

  • Prevalence is consistently lower than state and national averages
  • Scituate youth tend to be “late bloomers” - do not initiate use until after 8th grade
  • Use is still underestimated by parents and caregivers. In a recent caregiver survey, NO MS parents thought their children had tried vaping, alcohol or marijuana/cannabis
  • Our current opportunity is to extend that protection! Delay use as late as possible...
