Purpose, Question, or Problem you want to solve

I want to find out why some liquids do not mix with each other and what happens when food coloring is mixed with water and oil.

3 of 12

Background Information

  • Oil is lighter than water. So, oil floats on the top.
  • Food coloring when added to water mixes with it.
  • When food coloring water is added to oil then it sinks to the bottom through the oil. This creates fireworks!

Hypothesis

Food coloring mixed with water will not mix with oil and it will sink to the bottom spreading like fireworks
