This lesson takes two 45 minute class periods due to glue times.

Objectives:

  • Follow step-by-step directions given by the teacher to build a model rocket.
  • Learn to follow written detailed directions from a model rocket kit.
  • Work with partners to complete your rocket and verify it is built correctly.

Agenda

Day 1

  • 5 mins Pass out Materials/kits
  • 40 minutes build.
  • Put up rockets to allow time to dry.

Day 2

  • 45 Minutes build.
  • Put up rockets to finish drying

Intro/Driving Question/Opening

In order to see Newton’s Laws in action we need rockets. Today we are going to start to process of building your groups rocket so that you are able to see this whole process!

  • Unboxing the kit
  • Setting up the engine mount

  • Attaching launching guide to rocket tube
  • Starting bungee band.

  • Connect engine tube to fins
  • Connect bungee band to tube.

  • Connect base and tube.
  • Attach bungee band to cone.

  • Visual check of rockets at the end of each day to see if they have been built correctly.
