GRANT OVERVIEW

2019/2020 budget bill Governor signed  SB75/MHSSA ($80 Million)

Purpose: to establish mental health partnerships between county behavioral health departments, school districts, charter schools and county offices of education.

THE WISP GRANT: SUPPORTING STUDENTS THROUGH TRANSFORMATIVE WELLNESS PROGRAMS

The vision of the Contra Costa County Wellness in Schools Program (WISP) is for all students in the County to access needed behavioral health services and support in a timely manner.

  • Build capacity of the County’s schools to identify and address student behavioral health.
  • Establish a more uniform awareness of the range of existing behavioral health services and supports available to students and their families/caregivers in the County.  
  • Create increased understanding of how to access those services and supports.
  • Foster an appreciation for the importance of mental health wellness and a community that welcomes seeking mental health help.
  • Increase communication and collaboration between BHS, the COE, and school districts.

  • 1 WISP Program Manager

  • 4 WISP Liaisons (one for each region, under the umbrella of Office of Education)

  • 1 Foster and Homeless Youth Navigator

  • Expertise to help parents and students navigate both, education, health, and social service systems

  • Expand access to school-based mental health services
