Ghana Youth Onboarding Outreach

Purpose of the Proposal:

To organize outreach programs to safely onboard more youth with ideas into Cardano Blockchain Ecosystem.

Most of the youth in Ghana and Africa at large are not aware of Cardano blockchain, though some of them know about Bitcoin. So the purpose was to have two workshops on blockchain within two months to create awareness about Cardano Blockchain and the opportunities that come out of it.

When the youth who are in School and those already out of school get to know about Cardano blockchain and Project Catalyst, they can put their great ideas into impactful proposal and get to start their own businesses.

Challenge KPIs and How the Project addressed them:

  • General Onboarding: Sign-ups to Cardano Ideascale; Catalyst School sessions; Town Hall sessions and attendance.
  • Innovation process- growth in the number of referrers and proposers; growth in the number of Proposal Assessors and veteran Proposal Assessors; growth in the number of voters.
  • The Project addressed the above KPIs of the Challenge by having two workshops in two months and registering over 300 students and youth and getting over 50 to register on Ideascale. They have also joined the Africa Catalyst School and participated in the bi-Weekly Africa Town Hall meetups.
  • Over 10 of the new sign-ups tried writing proposals though they were not of a high standard they are growing gradually. Over 20 participated in the proposal assessments. With the voters, they are yet to participate fully because currently, they have only a few ADAs in their newly opened wallets.

Project KPIs and how the project addressed them

  • Organize two workshops in two months to onboard youth with ideas into the Cardano ecosystem. The target was to get about 300 youth to participate in the program; Train young people to become Proposers, Referrers, Proposal Assessors, veteran Proposal Assessors, and Voters as they continue to be active in the activities of the ecosystem; To reduce unemployment in the country as some of them are able to get funding for their projects and start their own businesses.
  • At the end of the workshops, over 300 participants attended the two programs, over 150 added to the Wada platform, over 50 registered on Ideascale, around 20 participated as Proposal Assessors in Fund9, after the first workshop, and about 10 wrote proposals in the Challenge, Scouted for Students

  • Key Achievements:
  • With over 100 youth registered, they currently participate in the weekly Africa Catalyst School, which is helping to nurture them to participate in the ecosystem significantly.

  • The numbers for the Africa Catalyst School have gone high and helped grow Cardano in Ghana and Africa.

  • It is expected that quite a significant number of them will be able to put their ideas into proposals in Fund 10 for real-life development.

  • Over 20 of them worked as proposal assessors in Fund9 after the first workshop in June.

  • Cardano is gradually growing significantly among the youth in Ghana.

Key Learnings

The youth of Ghana are excited to know about the Cardano blockchain platform, and a lot of them have expressed the commitment to be part of the ecosystem and participate fully, and this really makes me very happy about this project. I have learnt that this idea has helped others to also become aware that they can also do something significant for themselves and others as well.

Next Steps

To continue this good work of outreach and impacting lives, I put in Fund9 the phase 2 of this same project, and if funded, I and the team will continue to spread the news about Cardano in different schools and environment to get more youth into the ecosystem. If they do not hear and understand, they cannot join. So my mission is to organize more workshops to get the youth together and expand the Cardano ecosystem in Ghana.

Final Thoughts / Comments

My experience with the Cardano ecosystem is awesome. I have gained much more knowledge in diverse areas of study and governance. I am used to the centralized system of governance; but this whole new experience in decentralized governance has really opened up my mindset and impacted positively in my life. I thank Cardano Founder Mr. Charles Hoskinson and all the brain behind this awesome system.

My contribution to the ecosystem is also to let more people, especially the youth, know about it and explore more towards development of our dear people and Nation.

Pictures and video of the two workshops put together have been attached.
