PEAR DECK

Add questions to Google Slides presentations and assess your students’ understanding of the content. Assign pre-made lessons from Pear Deck’s library. Create interactive digital lessons that students can access and work through with one click. Peardeck is perfect for delivering digital instruction.

Peardeck is the presentation program you are in right now. What do you think? Are there things you like or don’t like about the format so far?

This presentation is running through a Google Slides “Add-on” from Pear Deck. It is a free add-on that allows you to make slides more interactive and engaging by adding content, questions, activities, and more. You can also use the Pear Deck digital platform without using a Google Slides presentation. Disclaimer...it does cost money if you want all the bells and whistles (but the free version will get the job done, too.

PEAR DECK... Drawbacks

1

Embedding a video so that it automatically plays is tricky. Adding links to video urls is an easier way to add them, but students have to know where the link is on the slide and what to click on to play it.

Click to Play Video

This you can easily do. (This is not actually linked.)

This has more steps. (This is not actually linked.)

But it CAN be done!

Which method do you prefer?

EdPuzzle

In class, we often show a video and pause it throughout to ask questions. EdPuzzle does that, too! But, it can do it without your being there! Access tons of pre-made videos or even create your own and insert it into the program!

2

Have you used EdPuzzle before?

6 of 24

Unfortunately, you can’t add voiceover anymore. Youtube doesn’t allow you to alter another person’s content. But, if you download the Youtube video and then upload it to EdPuzzle from Drive, and you can.

What can I DO with it?

Search for ones that are already MADE!

Using EdPuzzle for Guided Practice!!!!

Create a “video assessment” that immediately goes over a question after a student has answered to allow for correction.

At the moment, students only have one attempt at the questions during a video lesson, but there is an option for teachers to reset progress at any point before or after a student has completed the assignment.

Check out this example (you do not need to answer the questions)

Check out how to make it

Name one way that EdPuzzle could be useful for instruction.

Get real-time reports and scores and even export the grades into Google Classroom.

Get all the DATA!

Make accessing and adding videos to EdPuzzle EVEN EASIER!

Add the upload button to Youtube with the extension

EdPuzzle... Drawbacks

Youtube Playback Issues

Downloading Youtube Videos and then uploading them to EdPuzzle will better ensure that your video will play no matter what. Nothing is worse than going to use something that no longer works.

Would you need to store more than 20 videos?

INSERT LEARNING

Insert Learning is a program that allows you to put questions and other content on top of web pages and pdf documents! Your students can answer the questions, and their responses are tracked on the IL homepage.

3

You will now complete an assignment in EdPuzzle about Insert Learning. To get credit for this PD, you must complete this assignment. Please put in your actual name instead of a nickname when you enter the assignment.

The class code is ukcezer

Program Features

13 of 24

Insert a Youtube Video on a webpage

Insert an EdPuzzle Video on a webpage

Insert a Video (or anything else) from Drive on a webpage

You can embed just about anything to make whatever webpage you choose a “one-stop” for all your lesson materials. This will cut down on transition time and make activities, assessments, or review/enrichment materials much easier for students to find and access.

MORE

FEATURES

You can embed TONS of other tools and programs (more info under “Resources”)

You can search their “Public Library” for premade lessons!

Easily assign the lesson via link or to multiple Google Classes!

Insert Learning...Drawbacks

You can only store 2 lessons for free. But, if you don’t want to pay, just delete the lesson you no longer need and replace it with your new lesson...

Inserting content is based on paragraphs, or chunks of information, on a webpage. So you can’t insert items wherever you might want.

Insert Learning will not work in “reader mode.” Learn more about “reader mode” and watch the video for installing and using the extension HERE.

If the district were to purchase a subscription, would you use it more than 10 times a year?
