GO UP !A PROJECT THAT SHOWS PEOPLE TO MAKE HIGH-ALTITUDE BALLOONIN THEORY

OUR MISSION:

*ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO MAKE LOW-COST HIGH ALTITUDE BALLOON

*TO INFLUENCE PEOPLE ABOUT HIGH ALTITUDE BALLOON

WHO ARE WE?

  • We are team «GO UP !» and our challenge is«near-space near you!»
  • Ş. Asaf SÖNMEZ and Cafer KÜÇÜKBAŞOL are the group members.
  • Our challenge is to develop a lesson-plan and bill of materials, to teach students how to make a HAB
  • We came up with bunch of ideas and it is our latest project

SOLUTİON TO THE CHALLENGE

  • For this challenge we searched about HAB’s but we couldnot find a proper price range.
  • We learned how do these work but we couldnot find how to make an HAB that is not over 80 dolars.
  • After that we talked. And made a choise. If we couldnot found an design we will make our own so we came with an idea.
  • But not like any normal because we use fungus and the air pres-sure without using any other devices like electronics.

OUR DESİGN

  • We said a lot in this slide about "Our design" so lets talk about our design.
  • With this design we can deploy HAB of our own
  • Start with we can use a simple balloon and we will make little holes in it but not like an needle hole, like 0.01 in diameter or less but thats not all.
  • We do this because balloons pop at a high because the inner pressure gets more than outer pressure so with these holes we will balance the pressure cause we know pressure goes from more to less and when it gets higher it will have more unbalanced pressure so it trys to equal its pressure by releasing its air but there is a catch. Actually more than 1.
  • How will we control it by not releasing air?

OUR PROJECT: part 2

  • We will put a belt around the balloon but do not think a normal belt it is like a plastic-rubber mixture. And we will put this around holes by the way we will put holes on the largest circle of balloon.
  • Cause this belt will block most of the air and release only a small percent of it.
  • But when it cannot reach any higher it will stop at its last height because the last released air is the latest effort of to get higher but it cannot so the latest is the balanced and it stay for a long time.
  • Lets talk about second catch. When reachs to its limit how will it come down?
  • So helium is lighter than air we breathe when it stop at top we do not want to crash land so we come up with another part that contains fungus.
  • Because fungus are small and can make CO2. We use CO2 because it is lighter than air and it stops from crash landing. We put fungus with some fo- od in a small container unit that connects with a one way pipe.

QUESTİONS ABOUT PROJECT

When we explain this Project we received questions and these are some of them?

  • How it will not release air too much?: We said there is belt that holds balloon from places that holes are. The belt stuck to balloon but it has gaps on holes so when balloon expands it stick to the diameter of balloon but it do not lets to expand crazy. It holds in a shape because of that the balloon will fold right holes and the helium will release air till it balances pressure. And hope it answers.
  • How will we control fungus to release CO2?: The funguses are living creatures and they respiratory so it can make CO2 gas and because it is ligther than air it will not crash-land and we will use a type of a fungus that makes CO2 faster than a normal fungus. For example. The balloon goes up for 30 minutes it stops and comes down slowly it is because of the funguses they replaced helium with CO2 while it comes down if we upgrade this project it can do reseach with devices. Hope it is makes clear.
