Policies

Quarantine and COVID-19 Cases in School Settings

  • Quarantines for close contacts in the school setting may still occur, but they will be less common due to mandatory masking and the criteria listed below.

  • In the classroom setting, if one of the three criteria is met, quarantine is not required by close contacts:
    • 1. Fully vaccinated without symptoms (two weeks after last recommended vaccine dose.)
    • 2. Previously positive in the past 90 without symptoms day.
    • 3. Both parties were wearing a mask properly over the mouth and nose at the time of exposure and without symptoms.

16 of 18

  • Close contacts in the school setting are defined as children who were within 3 feet (adults 6 feet) of an infected person for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period. Please refer to the information above to determine if quarantine of a close contact is necessary.

  • CDC recommendation: Fully vaccinated people who have a known exposure to someone with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 should be tested 3-5 days after exposure, regardless of whether or not they have symptoms.

  • A leader may discreetly and directly ask about vaccination status for safety in scheduling purposes. Leaders will not engage in conversations about why an employee has not been vaccinated.

Quarantine and COVID-19 Cases Outside of School

  • People exposed to COVID-19 outside of the school setting -- including at home -- must follow the orders of their medical provider and the health department.

  • CDC recommendation: Fully vaccinated people who have a known exposure to someone with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 should be tested 3-5 days after exposure, regardless of whether or not they have symptoms
