SCRIPTURE
1 Verily I say unto you my friends, fear not, let your hearts be comforted; yea, rejoice evermore, and in everything give thanks;
2 Waiting patiently on the Lord, for your prayers have entered into the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth, and are recorded with this seal and testament—the Lord hath sworn and decreed that they shall be granted.
3 Therefore, he giveth this promise unto you, with an immutable covenant that they shall be fulfilled; and all things wherewith you have been afflicted shall work together for your good, and to my name’s glory, saith the Lord.
13 And whoso layeth down his life in my cause, for my name’s sake, shall find it again, even life eternal.
- Doctrine and Covenants 98:1-3,13
My trials can help me become more like Jesus Christ
Ronald E. Poelman
Of the Seventy
Adversity, or what we perceive to be adversity, enters into the life of every individual at various times and in various forms…To preserve free agency, the Lord also at times permits the righteous to suffer the consequences of evil acts by others…The Savior himself “learned …obedience by the things which he suffered.” Prophets and Apostles, ancient and modern, have struggled with adversity in their own lives, as well as with trials associated with their divine callings. No one is exempt.
…How, then, shall we respond to undeserved adversity in our own lives? How may our responses to affliction and suffering draw us closer to the Savior, to our Heavenly Father, and to the realization of our own celestial potential?…Repeated assurances have been given regarding the benefits and blessings of positive responses to adversity, however undeserved. The witness of the Spirit and the manifestation of greater things often follow the trial of one’s faith. Spiritual refinement may be realized in the furnace of affliction.
- Elder Ronald E. Poelman, “Adversity and the Divine Purpose of Mortality,”General Conference, April 1989
I’m Trying to Be like Jesus(Children’s Songbook #78)
MUSIC
1. I’m trying to be like Jesus;
I’m following in his ways.
I’m trying to love as he did, in all that I do and say.
At times I am tempted
to make a wrong choice,
But I try to listen
as the still small voice whispers,
Words and music: Janice Kapp Perry, b. 1938

2. I’m trying to love my neighbor;
I’m learning to serve my friends.
I watch for the day of gladness when Jesus will come again.
I try to remember
the lessons he taught.
Then the Holy Spirit
enters into my thoughts, saying:
Chorus:
“Love one another as Jesus loves you.
Try to show kindness in all that you do.
Be gentle and loving in deed and in thought,
For these are the things Jesus taught.”

The Lord wants me to seek peace in His way
The Lord wants me to seek peace in His way
SCRIPTURE
23 Now, I speak unto you concerning your families—if men will smite you, or your families, once, and ye bear it patiently and revile not against them, neither seek revenge, ye shall be rewarded;
24 But if ye bear it not patiently, it shall be accounted unto you as being meted out as a just measure unto you.
25 And again, if your enemy shall smite you the second time, and you revile not against your enemy, and bear it patiently, your reward shall be an hundredfold.
26 And again, if he shall smite you the third time, and ye bear it patiently, your reward shall be doubled unto you four-fold;
- Doctrine and Covenants 98:23-26
The Lord wants me to seek peace in His way
Thomas S. Monson
President of the Church
2008 - 2018
Perhaps we stray from the path which leads to peace and find it necessary to pause, to ponder, and to reflect on the teachings of the Prince of Peace …Peace after the way of man is perishable. Peace after the manner of God will prevail.
We are reminded that “anger doesn’t solve anything. It builds nothing, but it can destroy everything.” The consequences of conflict are so devastating that we yearn for guidance—even a way to insure our success as we seek the path to peace. What is the way to obtain such a universal blessing? Are there prerequisites? Let us remember that to obtain God’s blessings, one must do God’s bidding. May I suggest three ideas to prompt our thinking and guide our footsteps: Search inward; Reach outward; and Look heavenward…Truly peace will reign triumphant when we improve ourselves after the pattern taught by the Lord.
- President Thomas S. Monson, “The Path to Peace,” General Conference, April 1994
Peace in Christ(2018 Mutual Theme Song)
MUSIC
1. There is peace in Christ
When we learn of Him.
Feel the love He felt for us
When He bore our sins.
Listen to His words.
Let them come alive.
If we know Him as He is,
There is peace in Christ.
2. There is peace in Christ
When we walk with Him
Through the streets of Galilee
To Jerusalem.
Mend the broken hearts.
Dry the tear-filled eyes.
When we live the way He lived,
There is peace in Christ.
Chorus:
He gives us hope
When hope is gone.
He gives us strength
When we can’t go on.
He gives us shelter
In the storms of life.
When there’s no peace on earth,
There is peace in Christ.

The Lord wants me to seek peace in His way
Jesus wants me to forgive those who are unkind to me
Jesus wants me to forgive those who are unkind to me
SCRIPTURE
39 And again, verily I say unto you, if after thine enemy has come upon thee the first time, he repent and come unto thee praying thy forgiveness, thou shalt forgive him, and shalt hold it no more as a testimony against thine enemy—
40 And so on unto the second and third time; and as oft as thine enemy repenteth of the trespass wherewith he has trespassed against thee, thou shalt forgive him, until seventy times seven.
- Doctrine and Covenants 98:39-40
Jesus wants me to forgive those who are unkind to me
Jeffrey R. Holland
Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
Indeed, to a great degree, our relationship to Christ will be determined—or at least affected—by our relationship to each other. Surely each of us could cite an endless array of old scars and sorrows and painful memories that this very moment still corrode the peace in someone’s heart or family or neighborhood. Whether we have caused that pain or been the recipient of the pain, those wounds need to be healed so that life can be as rewarding as God intended it to be…
It is, however, important for some of you living in real anguish to note what He did not say. He did not say, “You are not allowed to feel true pain or real sorrow from the shattering experiences you have had at the hand of another.”…we can rise above our pain only when we put our feet onto the path of true healing. That path is the forgiving one walked by Jesus of Nazareth, who calls out to each of us, “Come, follow me.”
- Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, “The Ministry of Reconciliation,”General Conference, Oct 2018
Help Me, Dear Father(Children’s Songbook #99)
MUSIC
1. Help me, dear Father, to freely forgive
All who may seem unkind to me.
Help me each day, Father, I pray;
Help me live nearer, nearer to thee.
2. Help me, dear Father, to truly repent,
Making things right, and changing my ways.
Help me each day, Father, I pray;
Help me live nearer, nearer to thee.

The Lord takes care of those who serve Him
The Lord takes care of those who serve Him
SCRIPTURE
1 Verily, thus saith the Lord unto you, my friends Sidney and Joseph, your families are well; they are in mine hands, and I will do with them as seemeth me good; for in me there is all power.
5 Therefore, verily I say unto you, lift up your voices unto this people; speak the thoughts that I shall put into your hearts, and you shall not be confounded before men;
6 For it shall be given you in the very hour, yea, in the very moment, what ye shall say.
12 Therefore, continue your journey and let your hearts rejoice; for behold, and lo, I am with you even unto the end.
- Doctrine and Covenants 100:1,5-6,12
The Lord takes care of those who serve Him
Julie B. Beck
Former General Relief Society President and Former First Counselor in the Young Women General Presidency
Because of Christ there is hope smiling brightly before you, and you need not worry too much about sickness, death, poverty, or other afflictions. The Lord will take care of you. Your responsibility is to keep the commandments, feast upon the words of Christ, and stay in the path to your heavenly home.
With the hope of the Atonement and the Resurrection, you have a third great hope, the hope of eternal life. Because you have a Savior, you can plan for a future that extends beyond this life. If you keep the commandments, you are promised eternal life.
- Sister Julie B. Beck, “There Is Hope Smiling Brightly before Us,”General Conference, April 2003
Nephi’s Courage(Children's Songbook #120)
MUSIC
1. The Lord commanded Nephi to go and get the plates
From the wicked Laban inside the city gates.
Laman and Lemuel were both afraid to try.
Nephi was courageous. This was his reply:
2. The Lord commanded Nephi to go and build a boat.
Nephi’s older brothers believed it would not float.
Laughing and mocking, they said he should not try.
Nephi was courageous. This was his reply:
3. The Lord gives us commandments and asks us to obey.
Sometimes I am tempted to choose another way.
When I’m discouraged, and think I cannot try,
I will be courageous, and I will reply:
Chorus:
“I will go; I will do the thing the Lord commands.
I know the Lord provides a way; he wants me to obey.
I will go; I will do the thing the Lord commands.
I know the Lord provides a way; he wants me to obey.”

Following God’s counsel helps keep me safe
Following God’s counsel helps keep me safe
SCRIPTURE
44 A certain nobleman had a spot of land, very choice; and he said unto his servants: Go ye unto my vineyard, even upon this very choice piece of land, and plant twelve olive trees;
45 And set watchmen round about them, and build a tower, that one may overlook the land round about, to be a watchman upon the tower,…
48 And [the servants] consulted for a long time, saying among themselves: What need hath my lord of this tower, seeing this is a time of peace?
50 And while they were at variance one with another they became very slothful, and they hearkened not unto the commandments of their lord.
51 And the enemy came by night, and broke down the hedge; and the servants of the nobleman arose and were affrighted, and fled; and the enemy destroyed their works, and broke down the olive trees.
- Doctrine and Covenants 101:44-45,48,50-51
Following God’s counsel helps keep me safe
Joseph B. Wirthlin
Former Member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
The Light of Christ helps us to discern right from wrong. When we allow temptations to drown out the still voice of our conscience—that is when decisions become difficult. My parents taught me to react quickly when temptation comes and to say “No!” instantly and emphatically. I recommend that same counsel to you. Avoid temptations…it is clear to me now that these lessons—and many others I learned as a youth—served as the foundation upon which the rest of my life has been built…When I heard wise counsel from my parents or Church leaders, I listened and tried to make it part of my thoughts and actions.
…How do we know if we are wise or foolish? When we hear inspired counsel, we obey. That is the test of wise or foolish. What does it profit us if we listen to wise counsel and do not heed the words? Of what use is experience if we do not learn from it? What good are the scriptures if we do not cherish the words and incorporate them into our lives?
- Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin, “Life’s Lessons Learned,” General Conference, April 2007
Keep the Commandments(Children’s Songbook #146)
MUSIC
1. Keep the commandments; keep the commandments!
In this there is safety; in this there is peace.
He will send blessings;
He will send blessings.
Words of a prophet:
Keep the commandments.
In this there is safety and peace.
2. We are His children; we are His children,
and we must be tested to show we are true.
Hold to His promises;
Hold to His promises,
Heeding the prophets:
Keep the commandments.
In this there is safety and peace.

"Be Still and Know That I am God"
"Be Still and Know That I am God"
SCRIPTURE
12 And in that day all who are found upon the watch-tower, or in other words, all mine Israel, shall be saved.
13 And they that have been scattered shall be gathered.
14 And all they who have mourned shall be comforted.
15 And all they who have given their lives for my name shall be crowned.
16 Therefore, let your hearts be comforted concerning Zion; for all flesh is in mine hands; be still and know that I am God.
- Doctrine and Covenants 101:12-16
"Be Still and Know That I am God"
Ricardo P. Giménez
General Authority Seventy
[N]o matter what kind of storm is battering us—regardless of whether there is a solution to it or whether there is an end in sight—there is only one refuge, and it is the same for all types of storms. This single refuge provided by our Heavenly Father is our Lord Jesus Christ and His Atonement…
As we face the storms of life, I know that if we make our best effort and rely upon Jesus Christ and His Atonement as our refuge, we will be blessed with the relief, comfort, strength, temperance, and peace that we are seeking, with certainty in our hearts that at the end of our time here on earth, we will hear the words of the Master: “Well done, thou good and faithful servant: … enter thou into the joy of thy lord.”
- Elder Ricardo P. Giménez, “Finding Refuge from the Storms of Life,”General Conference, April 2020
Reverence is Love(Children's Songbook #31)
MUSIC
Rev’rence is more than just quietly sitting:
It’s thinking of Father above,
A feeling I get when I think of his blessings.
I’m rev’rent, for rev’rence is love.
When I’m rev’rent, it shows in my words and my deeds.
The pathway to follow is clear.
And when I am rev’rent, I know in my heart
Heav’nly Father and Jesus are near.
