Learning Intention: I can find rates and unit rates given a scenario.
Success Criteria: I will determine the rate and/or unit rate using division and double number lines.
Let’s watch the video
Scenario 1: Teacher Guidance
Directions: Use Number Pieces to complete the double number line.
Remy is traveling to Oregon to visit his grandparents. He drove 200 miles in 4 hours. At this speed, how long will it take him to travel 300 miles? How about 400 miles?
Scenario 1: Teacher Guidance
Let’s first use a table to complete.
Option 1: By 50 miles
Option 2: By 100 miles
Miles | Hours |
100 | 2 |
200 | 4 |
300 | 6 |
400 | 8 |
Miles | Hours |
50 | 1 |
100 | 2 |
150 | 3 |
200 | 4 |
250 | 5 |
300 | 6 |
350 | 7 |
400 | 8 |
Scenario 1: Teacher Guidance
Write your answer in sentence format:
At this rate it will take Remy 6 hours to travel 200 miles. It will then take him 8 hours to travel 400 miles.
Let’s now take our table and place it into a Double Number Line! We will use Number Pieces to create either Option 1 or Option 2. (The video demo is of Option 2)
Scenario 1: Independent Practice
Directions: Use Number Pieces to complete the double number line.
Now it’s your Turn!
Module 2 - Lesson 6 - Closing:
When you have completed the Double Number Line on Number Pieces, take a picture of it. Place it into______ so that it can be reviewed.
