Types of BriefCASEs

General thoughts were that BreifCASEs are the largest enrollment for CASEeasiest to implement for Pre-Service. CASE needs to provide what the customers (teachers) want and do their best to align PD with school calendars. Accessibility is key.

Content suggestions:

Material Science (welding0metalology, plastics)

Intro to Woods (without getting in another CTE lane)

Structures with an Ag focus

Deep dive into APT topics

Meat Science

Another middle school as a feeder into high school programs

Diseal Tech

All should include communication pieces and consider PD on how teachers (and maybe students) can be using AI in ag areas.

Alternative Certification Models + Inservice

The team is exploring alternative licensure pathways for Agricultural Education teachers through CASE programs. Advisory members identified recruiting alternatively certified teachers as a key challenge. Minnesota’s AgX certification, part of their Teacher Induction Program (TIP), offers a promising model. Dr. Tim Ray (Oregon) suggested embedding CASE Institutes into CTE licensure programs to better support alt-cert teachers.

Scheduling remains a barrier, as many alt-cert teachers are enrolled in evening graduate coursework. Dr. Smith (University of Minnesota) proposed a January launch with a few intensive days followed by night classes, noting that teachers gain the most from pedagogy training after initial classroom experience. Dr. Warner (Washington State) raised concerns about time zone conflicts for evening sessions.

Advisory members emphasized that alternatively certified teachers are most often stressed by navigating the SAE model, FFA expectations, and pedagogy—not content knowledge. Dr. Ray underscored the importance of backend support and peer cohorts to address the isolation many alt-cert teachers face.

It was also noted that any alt-cert program involving CASE should engage AAAE to ensure alignment with certification requirements. Additionally, CASE should focus on offering programs within its core strengths while partnering with other organizations and Council initiatives to provide wrap-around support tailored to the unique needs of alternatively certified educators.
