Desi Dance Network Inc. Safety and Wellness Committee

Safety and Wellness (SW) has been a focus across the Desi Dance Network for several years. While preventing sexual harassment and assault was our initial goal, we realized it is not possible without addressing all forms of systemic oppression and creating a community that is truly accountable to promoting safety, wellness, and inclusivity for all. Our approach to safety & wellness includes encouraging proactive conflict resolution, encouraging mental and physical wellness and rest, promoting prosocial behaviors and healthy relationships, reducing hypercompetitive and toxic team/competition environments, and more.

Position Needs

• Time management skills, including the organization and prioritization of tasks
• Excellent communication + active listening skills
• Ability to adapt & pivot when original plans don’t follow through
• Critical thinking & problem solving skills
• Comfortability with working with & reaching out to new people
• Warm & approachable personality

Position Focuses

• Establish close-knit relationships with teams & competitions within assigned region
• Support your region in navigating issues related to safety and wellness
• Aid in the creation of a community that is fun, safe, and accountable for their actions
• Report to director(s) with any progress, questions and concerns

​

Our Ask

• 1 year term with unlimited time off: June 2023- June 2024
• 2-4 hours per week
• Note: This is an unpaid, volunteer position
