Nice to Meet You
Today, we'll learn about how to tell someone who you are when you meet them for the first time.
What do you think will happen next?
Remembering what his teacher taught him about being friendly, Julian walked over with a smile and said, "Hi! My name is Julian. What's yours?" The new student smiled back and said, "I'm Sarah." Julian and Sarah became friends, all because Julian introduced himself in a friendly way.
One sunny morning, Julian walked into his classroom to find a new student sitting alone.
Why is it important to tell new people who you are? |
⭐ People will be more likely to want to get to know you. ⭐ It helps you to talk to new people and make new friends. |
When you meet someone and you decide to tell them who you are, it's important to make sure they’re ready to listen.
Looking at the person’s face shows them that you're paying attention to them and that you’d like to talk to them.
Once the person looks back at you, it’s a clue that they’re ready to talk with you.
Step 1: Look at the person.
Say "Hi" or "Hello" to greet the person.
Then, say "My name is..." and tell them your name.
For example, you could say, "Hi, my name is Emily." This lets the person know who you are.
Step 2: Use words like "Hi, my name is..."
My name is…
If you're meeting someone who isn’t part of your family or if you’re far away from them, you might wave your hand. 👋
If the person is part of your family, like an aunt, you might give them a high five 🫸 🫷 or a hug. 🤗
It's polite to ask first before giving a hug.
Step 3: Decide if you should wave, high five, or give a hug.
