Student Attendance Review Team

Student Attendance Review Board

Truancy Prevention Meeting

*Meeting addresses truancy to school.

*The program teaches parents of their legal responsibility to ensure that their children attend school through letters, brochures, general assemblies, and hearings.

*Truancy Prevention staff also support the efforts of LAUSD at School Attendance Review Teams (SART) and School Attendance Review Boards (SARB).

The purpose of the SART meeting is to address the barriers preventing regular school attendance. Interventions and referrals should be made as needed to the following, but not limited to:

  • School/District,support_services (Nursing,SMH, Psychological Services, etc.)
  • Counseling
  • Community Agencies
  • Parenting Classes
  • Tutoring

The School Attendance Review Board or

SARB was established by the California

Legislature in 1975 for the purposes of

helping students who are not going to

school, and keeping students and parents

out of the juvenile court system.

In order to meet the needs of students and

their families, the legislation provides for a

multi-agency SARB that includes the

following agencies:

  1. School site/district representatives
  2. Children and Family Services
  3. Probation
  4. Law Enforcement
  5. Parents or Community Representatives
  6. Community-Based Organizations
  7. Child Welfare & Attendance Personnel
  8. School Guidance Personnel
  9. District Attorney’s Office
  10. Health care personnel
