KINEMATICS

CHAPTER 02

2 of 8

WHAT IS MECHANICS?

  • Mechanics is the study of motion of an object, with or without considering the cause of motion.
  • Types of Mechanics:
    • Kinematics
    • Dynamics

3 of 8

What is Kinematics?

  • The study of motion of objects, without discussing the cause of motion.
  • For Example:
    • Free fall motion of an object.
    • Motion of a car on straight path.

What is Dynamics?

  • In Dynamics, we study about the motion of the objects and cause of that motion.
  • For Example:
    • Motion of Cars
    • Throwing of an object.

Rest and Motion

Basics and their relationship with each other

6 of 8

What is Rest?

  • A body is said to be in the state of rest, if it does not change its position with respect to its surroundings.

For Example:

Suppose you are sitting in a bus, now you are in rest with respect to that bus.

What is Motion?

  • A body is said to be in the state of motion, if it changes its position with respect to its surroundings.

For Example:

Taking the same example, consider a person sitting on a chair let say and he is observing that bus. Now according to that person bus is changing its position with respect to its surroundings, the bus is said to be in Motion.

Relation between Rest and Motion

  • Combining both examples:
      • Suppose you are sitting in a bus now with respect to your surroundings i.e people inside the bus you’re not changing your position with respect to your surroundings, so you are in the state of rest.
      • On the other hand, if we consider a person observing that bus from outside or on the road, the bus is continuously changing it position with respect to the surroundings, so the bus is said to be in the state of Motion.

      • Rest and Motion both are relatable.!
