Olive Branch Petition (excerpt)

“Most Gracious King,

We, your loyal subjects in the colonies are deeply devoted to you, your family, and your government. We feel connected with Great Britain, and we are upset by every event that weakens our relationship. We assure you that we want harmony between the colonies and Great Britain to be restored. We want to come to an agreement so that we can live in peace and benefit the future generations of both countries”

King George III won’t receive the petition…

“I refuse to read this petition! It is coming from a FAKE GOVERNMENT. I declare that the colonies are officially in rebellion against Britain!”
