Descriptive statistics in the esports realm
Group 18: Blake Hammell, Jonathan Mott, and Nhat Nguyen
Project Objective
The objective of this project was to create a program that, when given user input, would perform a variety of tasks relevant to the League of Legends World Championship Series of 2014 to 2017.
The program was designed to display desired competition statistics based on user selection or make and display predictions for future championships based on the statistics available for analysis.
Flow Chart
Sample Input
This is a sample Input of choosing to find information through the selection of a championship and then choosing the data you wish to find.
Sample Output
This is the output of choosing the 2017 overall championship data.
Graphs and Tables
This an example of a graph from the win rate for the statistical section for SK Telecom T1 and a table for multi kills from 2016 Championship
Repetition Loops
This shows an example of using while infinite loops for our menu system and the for loop to animate lines.
Statistical Analysis Code
Statistical Analysis Outputs
This shows an example of the output when a statistical menu option for damage per minute.
New Matlab Feature (ANIMATION) code
This was used to locate spots on a map of the game and animate a line drawing where it is. In this instance it showed where the baron/herald pit was on the map.
New Matlab Feature(ANIMATION)
This show how the animation will progress when choosing Dragon in the Map help section.
Conclusion
This project relied heavily on repetition loops, menu-based selection structures, and matrix manipulation for data analysis. Initially, the scope of our project was much wider. It included far more statistical projections and data manipulation than was feasible, so we were forced to restrict our scope slightly. To complete this project, we had to write a number of functions not only to achieve the goals we set at the beginning, but to make the code more legible and efficient. We gained valuable experience in large scale coding, trimming of code for efficiency and legibility, statistical modeling and projections, and the use of loops to create a user-friendly menu system. In implementing the new feature to our project, we faced a great deal of initial difficulty due to our lack of experience with coding animations. However, we were able to successfully utilize animations in our help function to display where certain things are on the map. Overall, the project was a success. We successfully created a program to take data from League of Legends World Championship games and display certain groupings of data based on user input as well as make predictions regarding future performance based on all the given data.
