This is Wassily Kandinsky, an artist from Russia that is considered one of the creators of abstract art.
Abstract art isn’t realistic. Instead the artist uses shapes and colors to create a feeling or a simplified version of real life.
Kandinsky was inspired to create his artwork by listening to music. When he heard music he would see colorful forms that matched the music.
He then would create vibrate paintings from the images he saw in his head when he listened to music.
This piece is called “Composition 8”.
He named it this because the word “Composition” can be used to describe both visual and musical art.
These two paintings were inspired by two types of music. Can you see how different they look from each other?
For today’s project we will be creating abstract artwork based on Kandinsky’s paintings while we listen to music.
