What is the Watch D.O.G.S Program?

Watch D.O.G.S. are fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and other father-figures who volunteer for at least one day (more is very much appreciated) each year at an official WATCH D.O.G.S. school

Goals of Watch D.O.G.S. Program

• To provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important.
• To provide extra sets of eyes and ears to help any way possible and reduce bullying.

Typical day for a Watch D.O.G.S.

• 7:15 – Check in at School
• 7:15 – 8:00 – Help with Safety Patrol and/or Cross Walks
• 8:00 – 8:30 – Spend time at the library stacking books
• 8:30 – 9:00 – Go around the school campus and clean up any debris
• 9:00 – 10:00 – Help with setting up the tables in cafeteria
• 10:00 - 10:30 – Help in class room
• 10:30 – 11:00 – Have lunch with your kid
• 11:00 – 11:30 – Help at the gym

• 11:30 – 12:30 – Oversee kids during recess.
• 12:30 – 1:30 – Other tasks assignments
• 1:30 – 2:00 - Fold tables in cafeteria
• 2:00-2:15 – Wrap up
• 2:15-2:40 – Photo-op and Survey
• 2:40-3:15 – Help with safety patrol and/or Cross Walks

Do’s & Don’ts

Watch D.O.G.S. Do’s

• Safety of children is the #1 Priority
• Be alert
• Recognize students who are following school procedures
• If you see a kind act, let the teacher or the front desk know
• Ask questions if you are not sure of procedures
• Be with students in groups
• Use the Pod Workroom restrooms
• Please use the front desk door when entering or leaving the premise
• Masks are optional

Watch D.O.G.S. Don'ts

• Be with students one on one
• Use student restrooms
• Be on your cell phones checking email, texting or talking
• Take pictures with your phone (privacy laws)
• Bark
• Only spend time with your kid

Recess Do’s and Don'ts

• Do’s
• Play with students
• Be “All-Time” QB or Pitcher (2^nd-5^th Grade)
• Be referee or Umpire (2^nd-5^th grade)
• Help students who fall down
• Don'ts
• Let students on grass (K-1^st)
• Pick up students and swing them
• Visit with teachers who are monitoring kids for safety

Lunch Do’s

• Help students open items at lunch if needed (especially Kinder)
• Let student get straws and napkins
• Check with 2^nd to 5^th grade teacher to learn lunch procedures
• Honor chow time – last 5 minutes of lunch
• Eat Lunch with your child

Other Do’s and Don'ts

• Do’s
• Be actively engaged with students
• Look for students who need extra help or encouragement
• Help at car line, cafeteria, recess
• Help put the recess equipment away end of day
• Have lunch with your child at the parents' lunch table
• Don’t
• Pop into your child’s class

First things First

• Background Checks
• Background check is mandatory each year
• You can’t do Watchdog if your background check is not complete
• Please go to https://friscoisd.voly.org/ fill it out asap

​

• Things happen
• If you need to cancel or don’t feel like doing Watch D.O.G.S., give us a heads up
• No harm/no foul/no judgment

​

• How to Sign up?
• Volunteer opportunities will be posted on Voly

Watch D.O.G.S. gear

• Preference is for you to wear official gear, but definitely dress appropriate and comfortable

​

• Don’t wear watchdog t-shirt outside of home or volunteering at school
