Welcome to the Green Library

• Green Library is also known as sustainable library is a part of the green building movement (in the early 1990s ).

• A green building builds for a library to be considered as a “green library.”

Introduction to Green Library:-

• The New World Encyclopedia (2013) describes the phrase “green library” as being a library built with environmental concern in mind.

​

• The term “greening” means “having more care for the environment.” We take care of the environment and it takes care of us.

• A Green library, also known as a sustainable library, is a library built with environmental concerns in mind.

• Green libraries are a part of the larger green building movement

Background:

The green library “green/sustainable libraries as a library designed to minimize negative impact on the natural environment and maximize indoor environmental quality by means of:

• Careful site selection,
• Use of natural construction materials
• Biodegradable products,
• Conservation of resources (water, energy, paper),
• Responsible waste disposal (recycling, etc.)”.

• Most of the people in present time now agree that the planet is under stress, hence we people have to change our behavior in terms of environmental protection, so that we can begin repairing the planet.
• In this context, Librarians have to step up and play a lead role to help communities to become green and sustainable.
• Librarians need to be on the constant cutting edge in terms of technology, researching, web tools and even architecture and design.

Objectives:

• Maintenance and Green Building : We will have to keep our library clean and eco-friendly using various innovative tips.
• Hardware: We should learn how to choose the right computers (emitting very lesser energy) and resources. Also, we should discourage the dispose e-waste in improper ways.
• Special Events and Projects: We should host special events like contests/quiz/flashcard/debates to raise awareness and become a greener library. A theme/identified topic will be given to the students for the preparation of the quiz/flashcards in interesting ways.

Methodology:

• Outdoors: Not only indoor library, but outdoor environment of the campus must be a greener and more sustainable spot. Moreover, use of natural pesticides/bio degradable fertilizers should be promoted.
• Networks: Our library must be updated to the latest environmental grade through collaborations with various organizations. It will help us to find materials for educating and engaging our students.
• Everyday Tips: we must appreciate students to use compostable library cards/wedding cards and to encourage the use of reusable bags in order to regularize our green campaign.

Methodology (contd):

• Using the Web: Take advantage of all the web tools and sites encouraging green library initiatives.

Study Spaces

• Comfortable seating, ample power outlets, and Wi-Fi access throughout the library.
• The library offers a variety of study spaces to accommodate different learning styles.
• You can also reserve study rooms in advance for group meetings.
• Quiet study areas for individual work and group study rooms for collaborative projects.

Technology

• Wireless printing and scanning services for convenience.
• The Green Library is equipped with the latest technology for enhanced learning.
• Computer workstations with software for research and multimedia production.
• Access to online databases and digital resources for anytime, anywhere learning.

Services

• Our knowledgeable librarians are available to assist the students.
• Interlibrary loan allows you to access materials from other libraries.
• We offer reference services, research consultations, and workshops.
• We provide access to computer workstations, printing, and scanning facilities.

• We regularly organize events such as author talks, workshops, and exhibitions.
• These events provide opportunities to engage with experts and explore new ideas.

• Students will be able to learn their analytical thinking and capable to produce their own views on relevant topic.
• The innovative and interactive Pustakoupahar assemblage may improve moral behavior among students with promotion of saving money and protecting environment.
• Research attitude of the students will be developed.

• Green Libraries have very important and hence, librarians are directly related to the society and have a great opportunities to educate the citizen.
• The duty of a Librarian is not only to provide information, but should play a role of leader to construct modern Green Buildings to save our natural environment.
• Library professionals should move beyond environmental sustainability exemplified by various practices of “Greening Libraries” and focus on proactive steps to guarantee future sustainable development of libraries.
