STAAR Performance and Reporting

  • The passing standard for STAAR Assessment is Approaches Grade level, however a student who scores within the Did not meet grade level, has not passed the STAAR Assessment. (TEC, 2018)
  • The STAAR progress measure provides information about the amount of improvement or progress a student has made in a subject. Progress is measured by a “students gain or growth”.
  • The difference between student growth and the scaled score achieved the previous year is categorized as Accelerated, Expected, or Limited Progress. (TEC, 2018)

What happens if my student is Unsuccessful on a STAAR Assessment?

  • SSI is a system of supports for on-grade-level student achievement in mathematics and reading at grades 5 & 8 (TEA, 2018)
  • TEC 28.02 requires placement in accelerated courses in each time a student fails to receive approaches or above on the STAAR/EOC Assessments. These courses are labeled ACC Math/ELAR.
  • SSI promotion requirements are that students are required to pass grade 5& 8th grade math and reading courses to be promoted to the corresponding grade.
