A demand vs. capacity assessment is an in-depth collection of data used to determine if an employee has the time and resources to complete a task/project.

Demand is work volume

(i.e # of items) in hours

Capacity is the work time in hours available to meet demand

It will produce concrete and measurable data that can be used to:

  • drive district initiatives, timelines, schedules and district and school wide goals
  • help to advocate for the needs of all school staff
  • drive discussions about non-value added roles such as lunch/hall duty

A consultant trained in Continuous Improvement would be qualified to conduct this in depth assessment.

A sampling of employees would be shadowed to calculate the capacity and demands of their current role in terms of time spent on each task. The calculations are made using a structured formula.
