Bubble Sheets for Paper Pencil Assessments on PowerSchool

Goals:

  • How to assign any exam on Power School as a paper/pencil assessment
  • How to print off test and coordinating bubble sheets for each student
  • How to scan bubble sheets, sending data to your PowerSchool account immediately (NO GRADING BY HAND! YAY!)

Note: You can assign any exam as a paper pencil assessment with a bubble sheet *AS LONG AS ALL TEST QUESTIONS ARE MULTIPLE CHOICE*.

  • Exams can not contain multiple select questions.
  • Exams can not contain free response questions.

Printing

Step 1:

Log in to Power School.

Click on “Testing Center”.

Step 2:

Select the subject.

Select the exam you want to assign.

*Remember, exams must have all multiple choice questions! No multiple select or free response.

Step 3:

Select the class you want to assign the exam to.

NOTE: You will need to complete the next steps for each of the classes you have. For example, I have two 5th grade classes, so I will complete these next steps for each of the two classes.

Step 4:

Select the class you want to assign the exam to.

Click “New Test Session”.

New Test Session window will pop up.

Step 5:

Click on the drop down menu for “Session Type”. Select “Paper Pencil”.

Step 5 (Continued):

Re-name the exam if you wish.

*Be sure the box is checked to add all students. Click “Create Test Session”.

Printing the Paper/Pencil Version:

Click “Menu”. In the drop down options, select “Print Exam”.

The printable test will open in a new window. You then have the option to print.

Click “Menu”. In the drop down options, select “Print All Bubble Sheets”.

Test Date Selector window will pop up. Select the date you are administering the test. Click “Submit”.

Cover page window will pop up. Select “No Cover Page”. (Not necessary to have a cover page at all. Just a waste of paper.)

A PDF of the student bubble sheets will download. (This is what it looks like for me.) Click on it to open the download.

The PDF will open. All student bubble sheets are in this PDF. Print.

Scanning

On your smart phone or tablet, download the Power Scan app from the app store.

This is the app you must use to scan the student bubble sheets.

Open the app on your phone.

Select the “Start Grading” tab. (green tab)

The app will automatically scan the bubble sheet.

Click the check mark to submit, then proceed with the same process for all bubble sheets.

The app will open the camera. You will focus the camera over the QR code on each bubble sheet.
