Directions for Clock Hours

  1. Go to the Google Generative AI for Educators Site and take the course:

https://grow.google/ai-for-educators You can do it in one chunk or break it up. It’s a lot of reading, but there are also interactive components and opportunities to try things out. Is this your second time taking this class? Go to the last slide for an alternative to the Google Course.

  • Save the certificate you get at the end of the course or use the Snip Tool to take a screenshot of it.
  • If you just want 2 clock hours, you’re done! Move on to steps 4 and 5. If you want three clock hours, follow the directions on the next slide.
  • Complete the course completion form found here: https://forms.gle/rKXMEiFysE4vmxBi6
  • That’s it! Your 2 (or 3) clock hours will be entered into PD Enroller when the course closes on April 18th.

Applying What You Learned

Step 1: Familiarize yourself with available resources on the District AI Resource Site

  • Look at all of the items under the “District Supports” Section. Make a copy of the AI Scale for future use.
  • Pick one of the resources in the “Professional Development” section (other than the Google course which you just completed.) Look through the resources and find an area of interest that you want to learn more about.

Applying What You Learned

Step 2: Try something out!

Choose a Tool from the AI Website and Tools section of the AI Resources page.

Use that tool to create teaching materials and/or communications to use as part of your teaching practice. Here are some examples:

  • Use ChatGPT to create leveled texts by copying an article or story into the tool.
  • Use MagicSchool AI to create a class newsletter
  • Upload student writing samples (with no personal information other than first name) to Claude and ask for feedback based on a particular standard. You can find samples of writing if you have students turn in writing into Google Clasroom. This video is a great demonstration of this.
  • Use Brisk to create quizzes on informative Youtube videos.
  • Use Notebook LM to create a FAQ and a Podcast (deep dive) on content from a website or document- even slideshows work! Colleague AI also has a similar tool.
  • Install Draftback to help monitor student writing process. A similar tool is available in Brisk. You can practice with previously turned in assignments or even your own work.
  • Browse TeacherServer for AI Tools for your subjects
  • Go back to the examples from the Google class for more ideas.

If school is in session:

  • Use Byte as a whole class to model how to use prompt refinement to write a story or poem. Use ChatGPT to create an accompanying image (you only get 3 tries- but you can also use Microsoft Copilot)
  • Use Humy to have your students chat with a history figure

When done, go back to the slide #3 to complete steps 4 and 5 to earn 3 credits.
