Bubonic Plague Study in the Library

Greetings!
We have a very exciting week ahead! The students will be turning in their stations for the Middle Ages and we
will be conducting a study i the Library with the other social studies classes. Also, in the event we have inclement weather, the kids have been made aware that the due date of their stations does not change. They are preparing to have to ability to do their digital stations at home. Regardless of how many days we might be at home next week, the students should be prepared to show me their remaining stations when they return! I am so proud of how they handled our first virtual day! Their wok and timeliness was outstanding!

First of all I want to apologize for falling behind on these. I didn’t send them during conferences and then
the month of December they completed slipped my mind in the holiday buzz! With that being said, my lack of communication with you does not mean that your students are doing anything less than going above and beyond. I am so proud of the growth that I saw in most of the kids from the 1st to 2nd MP. We just started our Middle Ages Unit! It is my hope that the kids will come home with lots of stories about building catapults, creating knights armour and castles and getting crafty with their coat of arms and stained glass windows!

I want to apologize for not reaching out over the past couple of weeks. With that being said, I so appreciate all of you who have stayed vigilant and have continued asking questions! The involvement we have had from the families of our team kiddos has been wonderful! Conferences are coming up soon and I would love to meet you all. Unlike elementary school, you only need to sign up one time and you will be able to meet all of your student’s teachers! Your students continue to amaze me everyday with they work ethic and kindness. These qualities will take your kiddos anywhere they wish to go in life. All I do is smile when I come to work everyday. Tell them to keep up the good work!

Our Ancient Egypt Unit is in full swing! My hope is that they will come home excited regarding our day to day
in class. We will be building pyramids out of Lego’s, designing Mummification Cycle Plates, playing Egyptian BINGO, and even using Egyptian Measuring tools to figure out one another’s height! Also, shoutout to your students who are going above and beyond that took Nile rivers home! This experiment is a favorite of mine, and I cannot wait to see how it turns out for your students! The gradebook has a ton of grades currently. New grades will not be added until this set of stations is completed, so make sure your students are turning in any makeup work that they owe! You can find these if they have any zeros in the gradebook.

A couple of highlights from the week. In an effort to practice taking responsibility… I gave all of the students with below a 70% a checklist of what they are missing. They have done an amazing job of getting me that makeup work! As the year goes on, they will get better at time management and there will be less makeup work. Also, we learned about 9/11 this week. The kids were so engaged and respectful. I also appreciated how many of them were willing to share stories that you told them. The events of 9/11 are very real to us and you have done an exceptional job of making them come alive for your kids. Thank you to all of you who are first responders. You were in my thought extra this week.

This week I have uploaded all of the grades for the first three weeks! As I mentioned at Back to School Night, this is when I typically see the lowest grades. Students are figuring out their pacing, structure, and time management. Please do not be alarmed. Grades can only ever go up. I put in zeros so that the kids can see their true grade! I accept late work until the end of the marking period. Anything that is a zero can be turned in later. With that being said, I am so proud of all of the kids that turned in 100% of the work on time! The kids put lots of time and energy into the Geography stations, and I was so proud of how many kids took it upon themselves to finish uncompleted stations at home. These kids rock

What a great week. I am having a hard time sleeping, because all that I can think about each night are the wonderful ways that your students shine academically and socially. This is the best start to a school year I have ever had. The kids are doing amazing on their Geography stations. I have loved seeing how many of their 50 states they know the location of! They have also had to come up with a bucket list of things they wish to do in PA. They are so creative. Next week we will wrap up geography and move on to Mesopotamia! There will be Playdough, Legos, dancing, and ofcourse lots of great discussions. Do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.

It was so great meeting a lot of you at Back to School Night. I cannot believe how wonderful all of your students are. Now that we have built a foundation for our relationship throughout the year, we are going to start getting into some content next week. We will start with Geography so that the kids have a basic understanding of the different locations we are discussing! The kids will be doing puzzles, games, and listening to some music videos to help them remember all of the different features of our
Geography unit! If you have any questions, comments, or
concerns do not hesitate to reach out!
