Course Syllabus

Fourth graders will develop familiarity with and skills in art forms such as still life, collage, sculpture, graphic design, architecture, and painting. These practices will be contextualized through historical periods, cultural theory, environmental studies, political protests, societal patterns and exploration of the domestic and familiar. They will visual journals to demonstrate an artistic process full of observation, interpretation, reflection and revision.

Learning Intentions

• Write an artist's statement and museum label for their piece in a classwide gallery walk and feedback session.
• Choose an appropriate painting style for their subject and refine their work.
• Design the floor plan of their dream home and participate in an open gallery walk/feedback session.
• Use visual journal and backward planning to plan and complete a final piece for mother's day

• Explore 2d and 3d forms to create a transient sculpture from natural materials.
• Gather, record and apply visual information about the still life genre.
• Complete a series of projects related to recycling using different media and techniques.
• Create a persuasive poster about a community issue, explaining their process.
