Personal Introduction
Financial literacy is a cornerstone of personal and community well-being, yet it remains a significant challenge for many. myWealthBeing, a nonprofit organization, was established in 2017 to address this issue by empowering individuals and communities with the tools and knowledge they need to achieve financial security. In 2021 we were granted 501c3 status.
Our mission is to offer tools and strategies and guide participants through standardized processes that promote financial stability, such as budgeting, debt management, saving, investing, and planning for major life milestones like homeownership and retirement.
Despite Boulder County’s reputation for affluence, economic disparities persist, reflecting broader national trends. Many households struggle with insufficient savings:
approximately 36% of Boulder County residents unable to cover an unexpected $1,000 expense, and 20% having no savings at all. In the United States, 44% of all families and 63% of minority families do not have sufficient liquid financial assets to sustain their households at the poverty level for three months if they lose their income. 36% of all senior citizens are at risk of outliving their resources. Racial and socioeconomic disparities exacerbate these challenges, as Black and Hispanic households face significantly lower net worths and homeownership rates compared to their white counterparts. Additionally, burdens like student loan debt and retirement savings gaps hinder economic mobility, leaving many residents financially vulnerable.
myWealthBeing tackles these challenges by offering accessible, inclusive financial education, coaching, and resources tailored to meet the diverse needs of our community. By addressing the root causes of financial instability, we empower individuals to build wealth and break the cycle of financial insecurity, creating opportunities for lasting prosperity.
