• Your Speed Radar signs would be nice.

• PLEASE reduce the speed limit and add traffic calming measures of some sort on W Club. I would also appreciate traffic calming measures on Woodrow and Englewood.

• Would like slower traffic and safe crossing. Parking is very important since many folks on Club park on the street.

• Make all cross streets in the WHH & OWD all-way stops--Club, Virginia, Carolina, Oakland, Virgie, Rosehill. It's logical and would make our streets much safer.

• Slow down traffic to make it less of a 45 mph (in a 35 zone) cut through

• While I'm in favor of traffic circles, I'm against the tacky circle shown in the image. It gives the neigborhood an industrial feel rather than a welcoming neighborhood.

• Visibility is a challenge for cars turning onto Club from side streets, either because parked cars or trees are too close to the intersection. Can this be addressed?

• Protected bike lanes are needed, as is SOMETHING, ANYTHING to deter drivers from speeding (speed bumps, rotaries, etc.)…kids play here! I would love to ride bikes with my kids more but don’t feel safe

• We should not let drivers get away with treating Club as a thoroughfare – we should use hard infrastructure to protect bikers and walkers so our neighborhood can draw people outside and remain vibrant

• I am a 20 year WHHNA resident. My kids and I are out and about in the neighborhood on every day. I would prefer to see efforts focused on traffic calming on the side streets rather than Club.

• Install those crosswalk lights

• Before the replacing cars drove way too fast. We had driver die after hitting a tree on our block. We have so many elderly and young families who love to walk bike and run in the neighborhood.

• I don’t bike on Club if possible(Pre-construction) since it doesn’t feel safe.

• It aint broke. No extreme fixes needed.

• Item 7 constraints did not allow me to accurately provide opinion on questions. Should be able to mark same value for multiple questions. Responses do NOT reflect my opinion.

• I live in Old West and hope to one day let my kids bike alone to the Ellerbe trail. The bricks at the Oval Park crossing are good cues but the crossing at Alabama is much scarier - cars speeding by.

• The speed limit should absolutely not be any higher than 25. I absolutely want protected bike lanes but I don't love parking protected lanes because they hide cyclists from drivers

• I really wish the city would bring back the vision zero initiative and take note of what other cities have done to incorporate bike and pedestrian culture

• Despite the fact that biking is good for health and saves money, I personally have never -- or almost never -- seen anyone biking on Club. Has anyone done a biking traffic study?

• Thank you for redoing sidewalks. Is there a solution for the lakes at the intersections

• Club is a major road and that's not going to change. It needs to continue to carry car traffic effectively.. But as a driver I need good markings and barriers so I can share the road with bikers.

• City to Fix the water holes, where sidewalks meet the streets, so we can walk without having to either go on the road, or get our feet wet when it rains

• Do not remove the center double line or you will have speeding people passing on Club. Add Speed cameras and more traffic calming with planters, boat planters, etc. The roundabout design is flawed.

• It should be a 25 mph road

• This is a residential street and should be treated as such. Lowest speed limit, accommodate walking and biking.

• If the water run off is not done properly, the service contract should have penalties sufficient to re-contract the repair. This means the rain water does not pool or flow into residential lots.

• Club Blvd is an asset to Durham with it's historic homes and wide boulevard. It would be nice if folks slowed down to enjoy it.

• Drivers speed through between 9th and Hillandale. Consider adding push-button crosswalk lighting/signaling at Carolina, Oval/Oakland, Virginia, and Alabama.

• Bikes can travel on another/side street. Club is BOULEVARD and people should be able to park on both sides.

• It would be great if parents felt safe with their kids crossing club to meet friends at the park or ride their bikes to friends' houses. Right now, it feels unsafe.

• Let's not neglect the many other streets that need to remain walkable/bikeable and could use some traffic calming. Would love to see 15mph within the neighborhood.

• Where there are crosswalks on Club Blvd there should be flashing lights for when pedestrians are present like on Markham. Only about 10% of drivers stop at the crosswalk in front of our house.

• I think stop signs every few blocks is the easiest way to slow traffic.

• I’m all for safe biking and traffic calming measures through the neighborhood. Club Blvd has always been a throughway and absolutely needs a double yellow line down the middle.

• Left turns from westbound Club to 9th are dangerous. In the AM there is a steady flow; many drivers don't slow and turn at full speed. The traffic light box blocks visibility of pedestrians

• The too-fast traffic on club before the road work was very loud/distracting and prevented me from using my front yard for any social activity (i.e. grilling).

• I would love to see crosswalks with flashing lights at the signs designated it a crosswalk (Carolina & Alabama). My child (& many other children) walk or bike to school and cross club blvd every day.

• Cars drive way too fast on club! Reducing speed should be the first priority.

• nice to have it reopened. It is appalling to me how few cars stop on club to allow pedestrians to cross at crosswalks. Maybe those lighted signs with the button would help. At Carolina and near oval.

• Consider closing Oakland around the south part of Oval Park.

• I think the approach to bike lanes and on-street parking to mirror a city-wide policy and not be different in each neighborhood. I would like to see the granite curbstones and brick gutters preserved.

• Bike lanes are very important for Clib Blvd

• The speed limit is too high, and there should be both speed bumps and four-way stops. Every time any road is repaved, I want default to be protected bike lanes and high-viz ped crossings are added.

• I would appreciate safer ways to bike with children in the neighborhood

• It is unacceptable that the handicap access at Club and Maryland has been INACCESSIBLE for over a year.

• Very important to make the entire street a bike-safe connection - i.e., no gaps in infrastructure. This street is wide enough (lucky) and this street is also an excellent connection to Hillandale path

• Many kids use club blvd to bike to school and the parks, and it’s currently extremely unsafe. Making it a safe place to bike would be a huge improvement for our neighborhood

• Speed limit decrease won't make any difference on its own, nobody comes close to following speed limits anywhere in this city

Q8. All free-text comments (page 7 of 16)

• Occasional police presence would help with speed and crime

• Priority: slow traffic via 4-way stops, lower MPH, zebra striping (no obstructions), then bike lanes/parking. Flashing signs at Oval Park if funded. No plastic posts, no stoplights.

• Opposed to speed humps which shift traffic to nearby streets. Opposed to closing streets like Georgia. Over the years, NA has closed streets, like Maryland & Sprunt, pushing more traffic onto Club.

• Have had many close calls crossing Club. Appreciate the security the bumpouts near Oval provide and would love to have that elsewhere (while giving Oval the stop signs it needs, given all the kids).

• I worry for my child as he walks/bikes bc speeding cars + ignoring xwalks. parked cars near intersections limit view for pulling out safely onto club or crossing

• Please put in four way stop signs and/or crosswalk blinking indicators at Club and Oakland for the crossing between the two sides of Oval Park.

• I would support removing striping from neighborhood feeder streets like Oakland

• In general, the traffic needs to be slowed down considerably.

Q8. All free-text comments (page 8 of 16)

• Driver mostly do not stop at the crosswalks. It is time for more intense traffic calming as described in #7. Include no-parking zones at side street intersections so incoming drivers can see.

• i push my stroller along club sidewalks!

• Sidewalks

• Club Blvd is a primary traffic-bearing street running EW in Dirham. Many of these measures will choke traffic that has few other alternative routes that do not involve going through neighborhoods.

• no

• It has been really pleasant to use since it was closed to through traffic. Oval park should be unified into a continuous space(without club blvd cutting it in half) to discourage through traffic.

• cars drive too fast on it

• I bike on Club every day to get my kids to school. Protected bike lanes would be a huge help. We often have to move to the sidewalk to avoid fast cars and parked cars.

Q8. All free-text comments (page 9 of 16)

• slow down the car traffic that use Club, add physically protected bike lanes. Although I would love to use Club to bike, I typically avoid it because cars go too fast and I feel unsafe.

• Would love wide sidewalks and safe biking all the way to Oval Park. Burch Ave has the painted corners and I like them there.

• I support aggressive changes to make it safe/friendly for bikes/pedestrians. Is there a way to improve safety when crossing club from neighborhood? Hard to see cars coming w/out stepping into street.

• It is important that parking on Club not restrict vision of people turning onto Club from the side streets. In the current configuration of parking, especially at Carolina Ave., this is a problem.

• As a major through way and neighborhood street, club blvd should consider all uses, biking, walking, driving, evenly. improvement is needed : safe bike lanes, smooth traffic flow, pedestrian safety.

• More young people(with children) are moving here and they prioritize safe, quiet, walkable streets, not highways next to their homes. Club Blvd IS a neighborhood street, not a throughfare.

• Please reduce speed limit, remove double yellow line, introduce speed cushions, install high visibility crosswalks w flashing lights on Club, (and where applicable, on) Woodrow, and Englewood.

• Speeding has always been out of control on club but I have zero confidence that the problem will be seriously. Making streets safe for kids and bikes is local govt’s absolute last priority.

Q8. All free-text comments (page 10 of 16)

• Club should remain a city throughfare, restored trolly car running down the center, no on-street parking. Georgia Ave blocked at Hillsborough or at least made painful for cut through traffic.

• If the turn lane is eliminated on Club to 9th, please consider adding speed bumps to Iredell b/c folks make Iredell into a cut-thru/speedway to bypass any perceived inconvenience of a delay.

• Before the pipe project, we found it difficult as pedestrians (or bikers) to cross any part of W Club, especially with children. We would like it to be much safer for bikers and pedestrians.

• Question 7 needs to be tossed.

• I walk and bike on Club. I support decreasing the speed limit and putting traffic calming ideas put into place. I would like to have protected bike lanes and feel safe walking across the street.

• My concern is both with the speed some people drive on Club, and w. how often someone veers around a car that waiting to make a R or L turn-- even if it moves them into a bike or parking lane.

• Traffic is too fast. Any thing to slow people down .

• People drive so fast, well above 35, so there should also be speeding ticket enforcement whether the limit changes or not. I like the idea of speed bumps, tighter corners, and crosswalks most.

Q8. All free-text comments (page 11 of 16)

• The more you restrict Club Boulevard, the more traffic we get on Indian Trail.

• Would like to have parking on both sides of the street as well as bike lanes. The turn lane onto Hillandale should be removed and parking and bike lanes restored.

• I think the 4 way flashing full stops on east club and chapel hill road (ymca to Lakewood) are brilliant. Also foliage at all corners in people’s yards greatly restricts vision at intersections.

• Make car traffic slow down! I wish it was a neighborhood street rather than a major road

• Crosswalks need to be made clearer.

• Safety of pedestrians, bike riders, and automobile passengers needs to be the number one priority - not convenience or speed or commuter wish lists!

• I generally avoid walking along/over Club because cars/trucks don’t see peds and don’t stop when they do. I’d love a couple 4-way stops to break up the speedway, or a couple blinking ped crosswalks.

• Make bike lanes continuous and find a way past Oval Park. Turn the park into a 4-way stop - drivers ignoring pedestrians. Zebra striping gets ignored. Parking on both sides of street to narrow road.

Q8. All free-text comments (page 12 of 16)

• Lower volume and speeds!

• More people walk along Club than ride bikes including people with baby strollers, young children. Crossing at the park area is hazardous. Please give preference to making Club safer for walkers.

• Remove the separate turn lane at intersection with Hillandale to preserve bike lanes. Extend >= Broad St. I would ride my bike if I felt safe; I have ridden and stopped; my kids have ridden.

• Drivers do not stop at any intersections for crossing pedestrians - safer crossings is my top priority.

• Zebra striping is not enough for these drivers. We need lights and something that indicates that pedestrians have the right of way at crossings. Solar motion-activated lights would be great.

• What is the plan for safeguarding and caring for those big ass trees??? I realize some may have to go but I also love them.

• Prioritize the safety of neighborhood pedestrians and cyclists over convenience for drivers

• Flashing protected walkways crossing club for increased pedestrian visibility

27 of 30

Q8. All free-text comments (page 13 of 16)

• Get all the construction done well and properly, and please leave us alone1

• Zebra striping is not enough for crosswalks. Need to also install signage and preferably motion activated blinking lights

• Sidewalks are generous, shaded, and continuous, which I appreciate as a walker. Getting rid of protected left turn onto 9th street seems ill-advised. Not a bike rider; still they need protection too.

• This calming traffic campaign is a solution in search of a problem. I have been living in Club's vicinity for 30 years, and I cannot recall any accident happening.

• In particular near/right before oval park on both sides I think there needs to be something to slow traffic (stop sign, speed bump, traffic circle) or several of these measures

• Speed limits mean nothing without enforcement. I have no issue with people driving 35. I have huge issues with people driving 50 and blowing through crosswalks.

• Slow Down!!!!!

• I wish crossing Club Blvd near Oval Park as a pedestrian with children were safer; in an Ideal world, I could press a button that triggered flashing lights alerting oncoming traffic to our presence

Q8. All free-text comments (page 14 of 16)

• If Club Blvd gets traffic calming, Hillsborough Rd. needs to not be neglected either. I am all for Club being made navigable but Hillsborough has even more people living near it and has speed issues.

• Crossing Club on foot is dangerous at most intersections. And the sidewalks are in terrible shape, especially near Oval Park.

• My young children cross Club Blvd when walking or biking to the park. They should be able to cross the street safely. Instead, they’ve learnt to expect that cars won’t stop for them. What a shame!

• Only hard, physical barriers will force drivers to slow down and slowing drivers down is the number one safety outcome desired

• Slowing down traffic on Club and making it easier to cross would be amazing progress to making it more pedestrian freindly.

• I hope to feel safe crossing Club Blvd on foot or bike in the future- cars would need to drive more slowly and have to stop/slow down at specific intervals where pedestrians can cross safely.

• I actually believe removing the center line will cause more danger to drivers and pedestrians. I would prefer limiting parking to one side, allowing for both two opposing lanes and bike lanes.

• Everything the city does takes too long and is too slow

29 of 30

Q8. All free-text comments (page 15 of 16)

• Especially west of the Guess Rd intersection, it is important for Club Blvd to support multi-modal transportation, more than just cars. Bring back the streetcar ;)

• There are lots of fast east-west alternatives (85, freeway); Club should be a residential street that is not a high-speed throughway.

• I'm in support of anything we can do to make Club into more of a neighborhood street rather than a thoroughfare.

• There needs to be protected bike lanes, and dedicated crosswalks. We lived in Edmonton before moving to Durham, their bike lanes were awesome. Wish American drivers slowed down and looked for people.

• We should prioritize walking and biking over driving! Let's make club boulevard a proper neighborhood street

• As a cyclist, I generally feel safe, but don’t feel it’s safe for my kids (as walkers, bikers, scooterers).

• Somehow we need to slow down traffic, especially at Oakland where the visibility is bad and people speed through.

• Club Blvd has plenty of room for cyclists and cars and walkers, BUT people routinely drive cars in excess of 45 mph. Reducing car speed should be priority #1

30 of 30

Q8. All free-text comments (page 16 of 16)

• Is there an option to turn Club Blvd into a city park? Construction aside, Club Blvd absent of traffic has improved quality of life in the neighborhood.

• In terms of "extend(ing) curbs..." I assume people aren't planning to move the sidewalk in. But just in case, I don't like how close the sidewalk ramp is to the road at Oval and Club.

• I appreciate these questions. Club can be hard to navigate as it is a connector to other main streets in Durham. I would love to see more traffic calming if not diversion from Watts-Hillandale streets

• Stop signs at Oval and oakland. Maybe one speed pillow on either side of the park but not a lot. I like a circle (or semi circle) at maryland and Georgia

• We need bike lanes on Club as a through way connector to other neighborhoods and downtown and further.

• Circles are more effective than stop signs, people just blow through. But the ones shown look cheap, ugly and not worthy of a warm and welcoming neighborhood. Question 7 is mostly impossible to answer.

• Ditch turn lane at Hillandale and restore more parking
