We all borrow materials from the library to help enhance our knowledge.

But how do we return these books to the library when we are done with them?

Do we have to wait until it is our designated library time?

You will now create steps for how to return a library book for students in our school.

We will add your steps to this chart (forced copy), or this chart (view) .

APPLICATION ACTIVITY

In your group, each person needs to write out their own steps for the task assigned to your group.

When you are done, share your steps.

As a group, identify and write the essential steps for completing your task.

CLOSURE

Have students share their essential steps with the class.

Emphasize the difference between essential steps and general steps.

Post the student work in the classroom.

Extension Activity

Materials Needed: Directions for the origami object of your choice, origami paper for each student.

Sequence: Follow an algorithm using origami. Directions to an origami boat are found here. Here is a link to a video showing the steps.

Students would complete this task together and then could find their own origami object to make. Note as a whole group that some of the folds in origami are essential.
