Meeting Requirements

  • All classes must be passed with a D or higher
  • Students must earn a minimum of 230 credits
  • All classes must be passed with a C or higher
  • Completing more than the minimum creates a better opportunity to be accepted.

Review Your Transcript in AERIES

Verify that your grades and coursework are accurate. Colleges like to see that you are progressively challenging yourself.

Each quarter grade stands alone (both grades count)

All grades 9-12 matter

Colleges will typically ask for Total GPA 9-12. UC/CSU’s will ask for the rough equivalent of your Academic GPA 10-12.

Counselors meet individually with students, grades 9-11th, through all 2nd period classes- turn in signed Course Selection Contract to counselor during this time

Deadline to make any course change for 2024-2025 school year until August during Taking Care of Business Days

Course Selection Contract

  • Fill out your name and make sure to have student signature and parent signature
  • Use the NEW Key on the course selection contract to know which classes are weighted, CSU/UC approved, Early College Credit, FALL,SPRING
  • Write in Course ID #’s and Course Names
    • ALL spring courses have an “S” after the number
  • Write in Alternate Courses (fill in all 5 boxes with alternate choices, including world language)
  • Write on your Course Selection Contract due when your entire 2nd period class goes to the counseling office sometime Feb 1-March 20

Balance

Select courses that meet high school and college requirements while allowing you time for clubs, sports, and time with friends.

Be You

Don’t compare yourself to anyone else. You are all individuals with different strengths and interests.

Challenge Yourself, Appropriately

Colleges will compare you with what your school offers, so try to progressively challenge yourself.

Be Informed

Review Course Profiles, pre-reqs etc.

Talk to your teachers-they know you best as a student in that subject area

Have Fun

Explore electives in areas you are passionate about, interested in, or want to explore

All Students

  • Select either Chemistry or Honors Chemistry
  • If you are interested in AP Chemistry, make sure to sign up for Honor Chemistry and AP Chemistry
  • Start a World Language if you have not started, select alternate language
  • 10th graders must sign up for 2nd year PE class (Yoga, Weight Training, Sports Performance, Surf PE, Skate PE) or Athletic PE
  • Select CP Government/Economics

OR

  • AP Government/AP Economics (Cannot mix and take AP Gov and CP Econ, for example)

Business Math now called Personal Financial Literacy

  • Consider courses that lead to a CTE pathway
  • Colleges like to see a math class each of the 4 years of high school

Check the Math course sequence pathway for appropriate next class

  • You can go to college without ever taking an Honors or AP level class, but try to challenge yourself by taking more classes in a subject area you like or are good at
