Career paths represent broad categories of career interests and are based on personal qualities, skills, and educational goals. Missouri divides career paths into the following 6 areas:

Natural Resources & Agriculture
Includes careers related to creative design, communication, and performing arts.
Encompasses careers in business, finance, marketing, information technology, and management.
Focuses on careers related to medicine, health sciences, and personal care.
Relates to careers that serve the public, such as social work, education, law enforcement, and government services.
Covers careers in manufacturing, architecture, construction, and engineering.
Involves careers in environmental science, agriculture, food science, and related fields.

Career clusters organize careers within each career path into 16 more specific groupings, based on common knowledge and skills. Each cluster includes a wide variety of occupations and helps students focus on a particular industry. Examples of career clusters include:
Career Pathways
Career pathways break down the clusters into even more detailed groups of occupations. Each pathway focuses on specific skills, knowledge, and training required for certain careers. For example, in the Health Science cluster, pathways might include:
Therapeutic Services: Occupations that focus on changing the health status of patients over time (e.g., nursing, physical therapy)
Diagnostic Services: Jobs that involve diagnosing and assessing patients (e.g., radiologic technologist, lab technician)
Health Informatics: Careers that focus on managing patient information and medical records (e.g., health information technician)
