Our journey with AI

Journey feels generous

Fall ‘23

  • ACHS establish a FIP model to recruit like-minded

teachers to collab around specific problems of practice.

Winter ‘23

  • Chat GPT-3 released - J. Gonzalez assembles a very

informal FIP because it feels big.

Spring ‘23

  • J. Gonzalez learns about Khanmigo and signs up for the

Pilot through Khan Academy.

  • D. Cook explores Curipod and Magic Design tool in Canva to build resources and garner feedback from students.

Summer ‘23

  • An OUHSD contingency goes to InstructureCon to discover that Khanmigo and Instructure are rolling out an integration for live AI tutoring and teacher feedback tools. OUHSD Superintendent Dr. Tom McCoy participates in an AI implications panel.
  • ACHS secures a pilot largely funded by Amgen to pilot Khanmigo.

Fall ‘23

  • An OUHSD Khanmigo pilot begins with a diverse set of learners.
  • ACHS attends the kickoff meeting with the Otter AI meeting assistant.
  • J. Gonzalez presents the state of OUHSD and AI to the School Board.

Why repeat our ways?

Playing whack-a-mole with purity tests

1:1 will not, on its own, solve the equity gap.

Studies show time and time again that merely implementing tech in the form of 1:1 technology doesn’t bridge the gap.

We have a responsibility to introduce and guide the use of emerging technologies and stay one step ahead to guide exposure and create opportunities.

“No calculators because you won’t always have a calculator handy.”

“You need to learn this grammar because…”

We didn’t solve it…

But we feel good about not being bystanders as technology rapidly changes.
