A Video Tour of Boston
Dr. Benjamin Church was one of the prominent leaders of the Sons of Liberty, trusted by Joseph Warren, Sam Adams, John Adams, and Paul Revere. By early 1775, he began selling information to General Thomas Gage, commander in chief of the British forces in America, in the form of coded letters. One of those letters was found and brought to the attention of General George Washington. On October 3, 1775, General Washington and his leading advisors met at headquarters – now Longfellow House-Washington’s Headquarters National Historic Site – to discuss the suspected treason of Church. Dr. Church admitted to writing the coded letter but claimed he did it to get intelligence from the British army for the Continental Army. Was Dr. Benjamin Church a traitor?
Click on the Blue Link at the top of this slide and decode Dr. Church’s letter to find out what he wrote to the British army and decide for yourself if he was a traitor!
The “Defining Their Sphere” video series explores the many facets of the women’s rights movement in Boston. While August 2020 marks the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, generations of women before and after this moment shaped women’s participation in the public sphere. These pioneers used their voices to combat injustice, to affect change in their communities, and to inspire future generations.
Click on the blue link above and join Rangers from the National Parks of Boston as they feature the stories of the many activists and organizations involved in the continuing march towards equality.
Perhaps the greatest moment in the history of humankind: The heroic Boston Red Sox break the curse of the Bambino and make history by beating the very, very, very, evil New York Yankees (and foil Trump in the process).

Discover endemic species including rare native birds and plants, gain useful tips for visiting the park, and insights into Haleakalā’s Hawaiian heritage. Also see our friend Ranger Honeygirl!

(2 minutes)
Koa Talking to Me
This National Park Service film follows a Hawaiian man's love for one of the rarest and most threatened trees in the world. Junior's connection with koa trees on his native island compels him to conserve and honor the spirit of fallen trees that would normally be wasted. His way of using the trees connects him to one of the oldest Hawaiian traditions.
(4 minutes)
Milky Way Over Haleakalā
The summer Milky Way is the backdrop for the observatories located on Haleakalā.
Notice the clouds below the peak streaming by in the trade winds. An inversion layer typically keeps them a few thousand feet below the summit insuring clear nights for the telescopes even though it may be raining at lower altitudes. The brightly lit clouds at right are illuminated by the resorts on the southern side of Maui.
Note also the cylindrical, shiny Air Force satellite tracking observatory which closes up about 20 seconds into the video. When the observatory closes, the sides are lifted up around the telescope, and a hatch at the top slides over to cover the top of the building.
(1 minute)
Night Sky @ the Grand Canyon
Just like Haleakalā, the Grand Canyon in Arizona is a great place to watch the night skies. Here’s a video that will teach you more about night skies.
This slide is dedicated to Yuna because she loves the night skies.
