Integration Tips:

• Teach content as you normally would.
• Assess or extend learning by asking students to create a digital story.
• Articulate clear expectations about what elements projects should include.

I Am Poem

Students write and create from a specific, content based point of view.

Lesson Breakdown:

• Students read “A Long Walk to Water” by Linda Sue Park.
• Students summarized the major events of the plot, made evidence-based inferences about the character and his qualities, and analyzed the setting by creating a Google Map.
• Students used the map to help them write a digital story from the main character’s point of view.

• Students researched the Qin Dynasty and its contributions using multiple sources.
• Students used a Padlet wall to record, categorize, and cite their findings.

Integration Tips:

• Teach content, making sure to integrate multiple points of view. For example, in history lessons, have students read accounts from varying “sides” or for English, ask students to read about issues from different perspectives.
• Have students choose a perspective from which to write a first person narrative. The one voice in their narrative will represent many voices.

Narrative Story

Students write and create an autobiographical or fictional narrative from a specific point of view. One voice represents many voices.

• Students read an excerpt from “The Circuit” by Francisco Jimenez.
• Students researched migrant farm life using multiple sources and created a Google presentation on what they learned.

Sample Story Spine

Once, there was a young scavenger named Rey.

Every day, she scavenged the deserted battlefields of Jakku.

Until one day, she met a Resistance droid named BB-8 and a former stormtrooper named Finn.

Because of that, she made new friends...and allies. And they escaped with their lives, running into none other than Han Solo!

Because of that, they gained Han’s help in returning BB-8 to the Resistance.

Because of that, they set out to destroy the First Order’s Starkiller Base.

Until finally, Rey defeated Kylo Ren and the Starkiller is destroyed.

And for now, she’s training with legendary Jedi Luke Skywalker.
