What: Java Game Engine?

  • We will be developing a game engine with the Java programming language in order to provide a platform for lesser skilled game developers to learn how to make games without having to learn a more complex game design platform like Unity.

Why: A Java Game Engine?

  • Java is widely known and is commonly taught as a beginner language, giving our users the edge to be able to learn core game development concepts without having to additionally learn another language. Our goal is to completely throw out the need for coding when building a game in order to further familiarize people with with this side of the coding world.
    • Write once - Run Anywhere
      • Due to the Java Virtual Machine any software written in Java can be ran on any OS, this feature allows us to package everything in one executable for stable release instead of building and maintaining multiple codebases
    • Another reason for our idea is to further our own understanding of game creation =>The best form of learning is teaching.
